Yes we did. However I''m not sure he could sustain that over the course of a season. He''s been in the game a long while but doesn''t seem capable of the next step up.

Can we put this one to bed once and for all? Yes - Irvines final 4 games were 3 wins and a draw - fantastic - yet cam AFTER the season was finished for us - pressure off.

But as with Alex Neil he was unable to get the players to perform in the games that counted; to sustain a push for the play offs we needed results away at Huddersfield and at home to fulham - in both games we failed to show and lost by conceding 3 in each game.

Irvine was in charge for 10, not 4 games. His points gained per game was 1.7, compared to Neils 1.9 - so where is this fabled improvement?

I am all for reminiscing of more attacking times but the facts are he did not improve results one iota.

If we are gonna hark back for past managers at least choose one who actually did a good job for us at the time.
