Anyone worth having?

I know most are on wages far out of our reach, but there must be the odd decent player there we could nip in for?

One that they probably would have sewn up had they gone up might have been Grabban, now back in Bournemouths reserves. I''d be tempted to forgive and forget his previous antics and get him back. Excellent player at this level and exactly the type of striker Farke looks like he wants.

The likes of Hourihane, Kodija, Chester will likely be premiership bound and have massive wages but there''s some talent to be had there, Johnstone in goal for instance or Hogan up top.
Didn''t Hogan just join them for 12 million last summer? Safe to say that even at a cut price he''d be way out of our league.
£15 million mate. Owner is mental paying that for him plus 12+ on McCormack.

I think Johnstone in goal was on loan from Man U, also Kodija is 29 I think, so I think it''s unlikely any will want him from the prem even though half decent. Grabban was getting in ahead at the end, also like you say he''ll be on a fair whack for a championship team.

Their problem is basically it comes down to how big the wages are and we know ourselves a player on big wages with something not right about them (age, injury, attitude, over hyped talent) are hard to shift even if you want to give them away.

In all fairness to villa, they were the 4th best team in the division, clearly some of the players were up to scratch, its just a tough league.

If we were short on midfielders, i would love Lansbury back. Again i suspect he will find a prem side or at least someone willing to shell out £30k a week wages.

4th they may have been TJ, but if you had compared the respective squads of Cardiff and Villa, the vast majority of people, would have preferred the Villa players.

Shame (NOT!) that those players didn''t become a team, like Cardiff did.

Villa have been trying to sell Lansbury for most of the season and there haven’t been that many interested parties, and those that would like him are in the Championship and can’t afford his wages.

Villa had a habit at buying players just as they were passing their peak for inflated fees and inflated wages. Can’t see them being able to shift many players apart from Grealish, Davis and Chester.

Many clubs, like Derby, Hull, Leeds and Birmingham, are looking to reduce wages/spending - there are very few teams out there who will take a punt on Villa’s players. Would imagine Stoke pick up one or two as Rowlett is generally pretty unimaginative in the transfer market.

Villa need a new sugar daddy, and quickly. Even then they will be saddled with chancers like McCormack and Micah Richards for a while.

Don''t you think there may be a few Steven Naismith sort of situations though where we could slip them half of Lansbury''s wages or something and take him on loan?

Leeds look like they''re about to break their wage cap for Abel Hernandez while appointing Biesla on what will likely be an expensive contract.

Today''s offering from TWTD (waiting for the cipro to kick in.)

"Would imagine the budgies are looking at Villa right now and squeaking. High wage bill themselves (Klose, Pinto, Oliveira, Tettey, Naismith, Wildschut, Jarvis, Martin.) A lot of over the hill players probably demanding high wages. Administration on the horizon in Norfolk."

Hmm.

No comment, except that comparing us to the Villa situation is just an extreme example of their constant need to exaggerate the problem with our own financial position as a means of deflecting their thoughts from that debt of theirs.

These figures are from the 2016-17 season but are an interesting comparison.
Villa — the second highest spender in 2016-17. Villa ran up losses of

£19.2m and spent £61.4m on wages. That''s £40m more than Huddersfield

Town, who were promoted that season.
Anyone know what our wage bill was for that season?

It is, to put it kindly, uninformed. We have spent the last season cutting back precisely to be avoid being in the mess Villa are in, because instead of cutting back they went on spending silly money.

And we re-signed Tettey on a reported lower contract. I''d be surprised if Villa were able to persuade any on their squad to do that.

As I understand it, the argument from that Ipswich Town fan who visits us from time to time (and from some of our own much-loved miserabilists) is that we will need to go on having a fire sale not just this summer but every season, now our parachute payments have finished. Whereas the dcbt-bankrolling from Marcus Evans means that will not be necessary at Portman Road. The comparitive figures on income (based on the Swiss Ramble''s analysis of 2016-17 season) don''t seem to back that up. Leaving parachute payments aside our income from the main two other sources came to £24m - £9m from ticket sales and £15m from Commercial. For Ipswich Town the figure was £9m (tickets (£5m and Commercial £4m).So our income from ticket sales alone equalled Ipswich''s two main sources put together, leaving our £15m from Commercial as extra. And while attendances at Portman Road (and so the income from) have been steadily dropping, from more than 25,000 in 2004-05 to well under 17,000 now, ours have remained stable, even if  there might now be a slight fall-off.Ah, but Evans makes up the shortfall. Up to a point. The Swiss Ramble calculates his investment at £48m over his 10 years as owner, so under £5m a year, and apparently less in recent years. On that basis, even with his help, Ipswich Town''s income for the 2018-19 and succeeding seasons (asuming we both stay in the Championship) is likely to be several millions - possibly even around £10m - below ours. The unknown factor is to what extent our cost cutting will have reduced our wage bill to make it sustainable now the parachute payments have gone.

Funny post, surely people can see there in a mess due transfer fees & wages they are paying out as well, so how would we afford them. Surely you all understand the financial position we are in now.
