The sale of James Maddison

Recommended Posts

Is there a PL club that has NOT expressed an interest in signing JM? West Ham pitching in now......

It would take some pretty poor negotiating skills not to come away with a minimum £25m. Norwich won’t be playing Premiership football anytime soon so they have an opportunity to grab a decent slice of the cake.

I guess Maddison will be looking for pitch time so will probably be tempted to avoid any of the top six.

BIg difference between media saying clubs are interested and clubs actually making bids.

As yet it seems no one has actually come forward with any money and all the talk of ‘the big 6’ being interested doesn’t seem to be actually true (yes that scouted him but that seems about it).

Clubs know Norwich need to sell so will be in no rush (especially while Maddison is still injured). Also, lots of interested parties doesn’t actually mean a ‘bidding war’ will necessarily start - it is quite possible for them

All to end up offering pretty much the same

Deal.

It looks like Puel is going to leave Leicester so they are unlikely to spend big right now and West Ham’s Director of football has been there a couple of days - so talk of them being interested seems a bit early, and purely based on speculation from January.

It is starting to look like this might drag on for a while.

If he joins a top six side he''ll either be in the match day squad or get loaned out to a lower premier league / top of championship side for a year. So I wouldn''t put too much weight on that issue; IMO he''ll be thinking about career progression, England call up and the playing style of his next club. I''m looking forward to seeing him show his skills in the EPL, his career and our short term future just don''t align unfortunately, however it is a good signal to talented young players that they should come and develop their careers here.

The sale of Murphy takes some of the immediate pressure off allowing Webber to wait to see who comes in first

Would also want us to sell after Grealish to understand the current market for exceptional young talent

I suspect it will be early July before there is any movement

Why are you all talking this deal up? You are all doing the Board''s work for them.

You should be talking the deal down so that the Suffolk Socialists can''t get the money they need to keep a grip on the club.

Very strange fans indeed. Completely brainwashed by the evil regime.

If you want the only remaining decent player sold you must also yearn for L1. Can be no other conclusion.

King Canary

I also heard that Leicester was all but done, then silence. I guess when the Mahrez transfer is completed we will see if that is the case or not - could also be that Fenebache’s interest in Puel is progressing and they are holding off big spends until that is worked out.

Maddison and his agent would also be foolish to rush into any agreements, a bidding war will always suit them more than anyone else.

While I''d love to stay strong and really incite a bidding war to get £25m+, I think it is really in our interest to bank £18m+ ASAP.

Once we''ve bagged the cash from this sale, we can hopefully hear the end of all the ''cut the wage bill'' rhetoric and start looking at bringing players in before pre-season starts.

Murphy £11m Bob £1m... I am hanging on to the hope that we keep him or at the very least sell him to a big club but get him back for a year.

Southampton rumoured to have agreed a £20m fee for him. Any club in the prem not yet linked?

It will include payment to Coventry plus all kinds of add-ins (England appearances etc) and probably will mean Reed coming to us.

"probably will mean"...why so?..there is as yet no mention or indication in the slightest that this will be the case. I see no reason why that should happen, despite many City fans wishful thinking. Could well be a simple transfer for Maddison, in these scenarios none of us ever know the exact amount involved.
What is obvious is that, with Murphy, Watkins and now Madders, if it goes thru, in not much more than a week, City are clearing the decks as soon as they can, to allow time to get other issues sorted, like Naismith etc, then go out and with the new funds, grab whatever target or targets they are after. For sure, Messrs Webber and Adams will be busy guys in the next  few weeks, which is a far more certainty than expecting Harrison Reed to be involved in the Maddison transfer.

Yes, but it has been widely reported that the club has put a£25m price tag on the player.

This of course could be fallacy, as every report including this Southampton one could be but if the figure falls short of that figure it would seem highly possible like another factor, ie. the inclusion of Harrison Reed, is involved.

It''s all guesswork though and all we can aspire to is that the club gets the maximum possible amount, as I feel they did for young Josh.

Whatever the final sum there will always be add-ons and in this case they will, I should imagine, be related to JM achieving full international status. He could eventually be sold on for a lot more I suppose as there is some potential to be a super-super star there and transfer fee inflation is rampant.

So if he goes to Southampton, I guess that will mean he will end up at Liverpool in a season or two.

Hope was have a sell on clause.

We could be looking to flush out the other potential bidders.

But the figure mentioned plus add ons and hopefully Reed would be good business.

Part exchange deals are very rare as they may deals far more difficult to organise. The Sanchez/Mkhitaryan deal ended up being two separate deals in the end.

I wouldn’t expect any potential Maddison deal with Southampton to envolve Reed - although wouldn’t be surprised if he did end up at Norwich at some point this summer.

Anything over £20m for Maddison would be a good deal, especially if most of it is guaranteed payments rather than related to performance etc.

There is so much noise around Maddison’s future it is hard to work out the real stuff from paper talk. Hopefully Norwich can get any deal concluded relatively quickly and then progress with their own summer transfer plans.

Wouldn’t value Reed at anywhere close to £5m - we need as much cash up front as possible.

Yes Essjayess, its all of a bit of conjecture isn''t it? But as Broadstairs intimates, its educative guesswork. Farke enjoyed Reed being here. And why wouldn''t £5m (or more) be close to his real value? ...With Godfrey (to give just one example) being touted at £3m to £6m? I think the Premier pricing market even for squad players has been inflating fir some tine. Maybe the choice of Southampton is interesting therefore? We will find out soon enough.

If we don''t put in a sell-on clause then it will prove what naive mugs we are, especially if Maddison goes to Southampton. Madders could go for 75 million in a couple of years to a top six club and we need to make sure that we reap some of that dividend.

I am not sure whether Maddison is being advised by an agent or just his family, but hopefully he goes to a club where he stands a good chance of playing on a regular basis.

He comes across as a level headed person who appreciates the chance given to him by Norwich. I really hope he does go on to have a full international career.
