Jordan Rhodes

Recommended Posts

"Anyone who has seen Rhodes in action will know he relies on good quality service from the midfield. He is not the type of forward who makes chances for himself. His team-mates have to do the ''donkey work''. It is in the 18-yard box where he comes alive. He is a poacher."

Article in the Sheffield Star discussing Rhodes''s failure at Wednesday and suggesting that the manager(s) did not play to his strengths and the player subsequently lost confidence.

Nothing perhaps that we didn''t know already and we do have a wealth of midfielders and some new width to do the ''donkey work'' and feed the do .. (oops!) player.

I think this is one if those signings where we''ll have to wait and see.

Many comments about him being lazy and expects midfield to work for him yet last night reports say he linked up with them and assisted two goals.

Onwards and upwards, only time will tell if this is a good move by the club, OTBC

A lot of our signings ( Rhodes included ) we would have been raving about 2 to 3 years ago. Our policy seems to be to sign players desperate to get their careers back on track. This is a policy similar to the Lambert era where players who were hungry were signed to start their careers.

Providing we have only signed players that are desperate to get their careers back on course ( after questioning by Webber and Farke ) I think this is a good move, signing hungry players that a couple of years ago would have been way out of our league given our current position.

The good thing is that with that frame of mind players will come here because they know they will be given a chance. Leitner is a great example of that, and it might persuade others to look at the way he''s been treated, and then signed up permanently as a good option to move to England and/or get their careers back on track.

Thoughtful comments from We''ll b back and AJ. And I tend to agree. Rhodes looks like he wants to make an impression given his early comments (though most will say similar things), he knows a couple of former team mates. And £8m shelled out on him not long ago, we may get some real value from him. If he was to go on and score 10 to 15 goals for us it will have been a masterstroke recruitment. He seems to have been near the top of wish list too (headed by Ducksch).

He is here for the season so lets get behind him and maybe he can be great for us this season, he wanted to be here by all accounts and we don''t know but Hooper may have said things about the club whether good or bad, but he is here regardless still only 28 so a good age and the better he performs the more it will wind up the binners, this could be a real coup.
If he just wanted the money with none of the hassle Vince, he''d have stayed at Wednesday.
But Wednesday wanted him gone because to them he was their Naismith.
