5-0 up they took their foot off the pedal
they found a way of scoring and winning games
how awful

1- we won the first half 5-0 so that is completely immaterial

2- set piece goals still count as goals, so also completely immaterial

3- we completed 92% of our passes

Great performance in that 1st half and with the game won they understandably took their foot of the pedal. It was 30+ degrees and we have far bigger fish to fry. Very impressive performance and why shouldn’t we get exited about our chances? From what I’ve seen we’re as good and anyone in it.

Yeah, I''m not knocking it, great to score lots of goals - it''s just that the media - which is where most of us see, hear and read about it - tend to start coming out with all the c-rap about "the nation expects" and which puts a stupid extra pressure on the players, or at least is irrtating to those of us who just want to take things as they come and not get ahead of ourselves.

I highly doubt any of the players will be reading the press whilst at the tournament

Some daft reporter went up to Harry kane afterwards and said just straight to his face "the nation expects".  Ridiculous.

Still things to work on, but a great start to the tournament. Belgium on Thursday is going to tell us a great deal about just how good this team is, but it''s great to see young players restoring a bit of passion to the national team.

If we draw with Belgium the here''s how it stands so far
"both countries have six points, having scored eight goals and

conceded two. And so if the sides draw next week they will finish the

group stage with identical records.

In that case, Fifa uses fair play rules to determine the group winner.

The rules dictate that over the course of the three group games,

sides lose one point per yellow card. Three points are lost for an

indirect red (two yellow cards) and four for a direct red card.

Meanwhile five points are lost for a yellow followed by a direct red.

England have currently received two yellow cards and no red cards after two games.

Belgium have received three yellow cards and no red cards – meaning

England currently top Group G by a single Fifa fair play point."

So don''t say you don''t know
“play acting, fouls and tantrums”

You can come on here and see plenty of that
Your probably right, however, I loved the "Pray for Pedro campaign" on twitter after he threw himself to the ground when someone layed a hand on his shoulder last week. "Pray for Big Vince" doesn''t have the same appeal.

Despite the admirable broadening-out of the World Cup by Fifa this is proving to be an old-fashioned tournament, dominated by Europe and South America. The last 16 will be Portugal, France, Spain, Russia, Croatia, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, England, Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and two from Japan, Senegal and Colombia.

Now if England can somehow get maybe 2 yellow cards tomorrow or lose 1-0 and get 2nd in the group we have a far easier road to the finals.

Works for me :)

Yes finishing runners up would appear to be the easier route to the semi final against probably Spain or Croatia.

But I would imagine Belgium are thinking the same thing.

Interesting fact
Two World Cup countries

have 0 players who play in their own country - Sweden and Senegal.
The one

country which has 0 team members playing outside their country - England.
