In terms of big names, it''s the same squad minus Johnstone, Terry, Grabban and Snodgrass. Though they brought a few unknowns in and I wouldn''t be surprised if Snodgrass rejoined on loan again.

Hardly earthshattering. Even in the crazy off choice they went up (which I doubt, as they have a weakness of getting bullied by hungrier teams) they''d still need a new squad.

I assume by hanging onto Grealish and co they are banking on trying to get out of the division this season, otherwise FFP is going to hit them hard pretty soon.

It will and like us they may have to sell their key assets. I am sure that the next transfer window will be key, whether they go for it or decide to sell. They are going to have to cash in on Grealish like we did with Madders... The new owners I am sure will have a similar contingency plan as our board did. But if you are a Villa fan you''d be happy that you had kept one of the best players in the league.

Yeah, they''re pretty much a basket case but the joys of parachute payments means they have one last opportunity to sort themselves out. They''re rolling the dice much like we did by trying to keep as much of our prem team together as possible (in our first season down).

Villa have signed a decent Scottish midfielder in John McGinn. Interested to see how he does in competitive league and even if he can get in the matchday lineup. Probably not, but he''s a good player all the same. If we can get excited about Kenny McLean Villa should about this guy.

I think in this instance its less about the final year of parachute payments and more about the FFP being over three years. The only reason they HAD to sell graelish this window was because otherwise they would have ended up in administration, instead of selling the player they sold the club, but, if they don''t get up this year they will still be screwed by FFP next year.

The difference between us and them is that we don''t have owners that can afford for us to fall foul of FFP even if they wanted to, which is a bit of a blessing in disguise seeing the state of clubs like Wednesday.

Which is exactly my point... however our last year of parachute money was spent by our owners preparing for a long stint in this division, I would suggest the new owners at Villa have a far higher expectation.

I hope Villa fail miserably because I can not stand them...

Don''t really see Villa as a major threat this year - Grealish is a good player, but he doesn''t win matches on his own and they don''t have a lot else above Champs average.

If they couldn''t get up last year with all the quality players they had I don''t see how they will this year, in what is a stronger league. How many of their players would you pick over ours? Maybe two or three.

I mentioned in an thread that IMO Villa can sell Grealish in Jan and still use the funds to help their FFP issue. He''s still there because they were £7m off in the price Tottenham were prepared to pay now.
