Wes

Recommended Posts

Wes was superb last night driving the attacks forward, he took the p out of the Chelsea players which seemed to fill the rest of the team with confidence.

The younger players thrive off him and Cantwell''s wonderful flick late on was a great example of this.

Please can we keep him at the club in some capacity when his playing days are over.

Have to agree, thought he had a great game. Seemed to just go out and enjoy his football and that is the Wes we''d all love to see.

Agreed, I thought he was superb when he came on as well. A possible recall on the cards given the tired legs we are bound to have on Saturday?

Hoolahan has been given a raw deal by Farke this season!

Played out of position and way to rarely!

If played in his best position in the hole inbetween the striker and the midfield he''d still be a major player for us!

While I concede that Vrancic has played better later he hasn''t the tenacity and forward drive to be as effective as Hoolahan yet hes played lots more which in my opinion is wrong!

I''d offer Hoolahan a 1 year deal!

Wes was class when he came on.

Executes a Rabona, unbelievable touch from a ball coming down with snow on it, nutmegged Kante and got Pedro sent off.

The best player, in terms of natural ability, I’ve seen play for Norwich. He’s gifted.

I hope Farke utilises him more often. I still think he could do another year. At times last season, he was brilliant and certainly didn’t look past his best. We’ve not seen enough of him this year to really judge where he is.

Wes set piece for klose in the last minute should have brought a winner too. Such a joy to watch.

A beautiful cameo, but I prefer others to start tbh, we have depth of quality in that position and tomorrows players need pitch time too.

The game was played at the right pace for Wes. The game had stretched and he wasn''t having to perform in the middle of a crowded midfield. He can burn anyone in those situations.

We do have a couple of magicians in midfield now.

Hard to accommodate Maddison and Wes this season.

Like everyone I want to watch Wes play, this is probably the last few months of his Norwich career but would you want Maddison to be dropped to play Wes? While Maddison can play deeper, it just leads to the issues Norwich had earlier in the season with a midfield that is too open and teams can cut right through the middle too easily.

More fleeting appearances from off the bench would be my guess for the rest of the season. Unless Norwich sell Maddison of course...

Sorry but I think the high of the team performing well has influenced some of you a bit too much. Wes has been great for us and is more of a legend that Holt in my opinion. I don’t really want to see him gradually deteriorate on the pitch and get a load of stick at the same time. It would be a Fleck/Cureton situation again. We’ve got some talented young players that can play there now, it’s the right time him to finish this season. Comparing him with Vrancic is wrong in my opinion

Comparing him with Vrancic is wrong as Vrancic has not played well in the ‘Wes’ role. His improved performances of late have been as one of the two in front of the back 4, with the play ahead of him he’s had time to get his head up and create.

"Hard to accommodate Maddison and Wes this season."

Didn''t they both have a cracking game playing together at the Binners?

But the most dominant time in the game for us Wednesday was when Wes and Maddison were on the pitch together.

I didn''t see Chelsea''s midfield cutting through us. So why should Sheffield United''s. Chelsea only looked dangerous when people like Pedro, Willian, Kennedy ran at us.

In that period we gave Chelsea no respect and took it to them without a backward step. We only went defensive in the last minute of extra time when Stiepermann came on.

We should be looking, at home especially, to be take the initiative from the off.

I know teams have tended to sit back against us at Carrow Road but we have hardly done anything different to try and break them down.

Wednesday we played all different types of football to try and get the winning goal. Just the last minute Wes through a great cross into the box and Klose was unlucky.

We never look like scoring from corners or fee kicks normally. But Wednesday, we looked dangerous.

I''d like the club to try and find a way of keeping him on for another season. Perhaps a player/coach type role if he''s interested in getting his coaching badges. He''d probably have to accept slightly lower wages to stay on but he seems quite settled so its worth considering an offer.

I just feel that next season we are going to have a lot of kids in the squad and will probably have lost Maddison who plays in the same position. I think it will be important to have a core of experienced pros around to help the youngsters and Wes might fit the bill as a good role model to have around the squad and who can still perform at this level even if not every game. he again started this season well and his performance levels have been fine when he has been called upon since he had a break with injury.

If he does go then surely we also should be giving him a testimonial? i''ve not heard anything about on being on the cards.

keelansgrandad,

Chelsea don''t normally attack through the middle of the pitch, so having Wes and Maddison didn''t open a particular weakness to them. When playing against teams like Millwall without two holding midfielders then long straight balls have caused Norwich all kinds of issues. The stability of the team and the unbeaten runs have pretty much been based on a Tettey/Trybull combative midfield. Moving Maddison back into that area to accomodate Wes would potential disrupt what Norwich have done well in their good performances. There are of course also question marks against whether Wes can be effective for a full 90 mins now, he certainly wouldn''t be able to press for an entire game like Maddison does from the front.

As for scoring from set-pieces, Norwich are actually one of the most effective teams for set-piece goals in the league. with 8 goals out of 27 being from set-plays. Only Ipswich and QPR have scored a higher proportion of their goals this way. (This doesn''t include penalties).

I certainly agree that Wes must be doubtful for a full intensive 90 minutes.
