Icecream Snow 761 Posted February 7, 2018 Of the final eight, Arsenal are through, and it''s either Chelsea or Spurs for another spot, so we''d want to avoid those two if possible. Interesting to see that a lot of teams are already out, Man City, Man United, Liverpool etc.

Bill 1,788 Posted February 7, 2018 report from NUFCWith coach Dave Watson making an emotional return to Norwich, the team he captained to Milk Cup glory in 1985, Kelland Watts and Elias Sörensen''s goals were no less than United deserved for an excellent first-half display. But Anthony Spyrou''s strike on the stroke of half time - which was adjudged to have crossed the line despite the best efforts of goalkeeper Dan Langley - gave Norwich a lifeline and further goals from Timi Odusina and Alan Fleming looked to have turned the game completely on its head.A stoppage-time strike from Adam Wilson forced extra time, but Spyrou''s second of the night broke the hearts of the young Magpies and sent Norwich through to the quarter-finals.United started brightly under the lights, with Canaries skipper Alfie Payne forced to clear off the line after Watts and Matthew Longstaff combined to force the ball towards goal in the eighth minute before Sörensen almost turned home a cross from Thomas Allan two minutes later. Then winger Wilson had a shot of his own blocked underneath the crossbar by Aaron Akyeampong-Ekumah before Norwich - who had scored eight times in their previous two FA Youth Cup games - created their first opportunity, which fell to Fleming but failed to test Langley. And Newcastle went in front in the 25th minute through Watts, with his fifth goal of the competition so far. Allan crossed and although Watts'' initial effort was parried by 15-year-old goalkeeper Dante Baptiste, the Newcastle number ten was able to nod home the rebound. It could have been 2-0 four minutes later when Allan outpaced Ekumah but Baptiste denied him. And the home side nearly levelled just after the half-hour mark; Adam Idah''s shot was blocked by the huge frame of Langley before Spyrou''s follow-up was somehow kept out by Oisin McEntee.Newcastle doubled their advantage in the 40th minute, with Sörensen guiding the ball home from Longstaff''s free-kick, but the Canaries - who won the FA Youth Cup in 2013 - quickly hit back.Just before half time, Isak Thorvaldsson''s pass released Spyrou, whose powerful shot was parried onto the bar by Langley before spinning agonisingly back towards goal and - according to the officials - over the line. Ten minutes into the second half, Watts came close to his second and United''s third but headed Wilson''s corner over the bar.Norwich, though, had come from behind to win in their previous two games in the competition so a strong finish was always likely and in the 70th minute, a good move resulted in Max Aarons - cousin of Rolando - forcing a save from Langley. But Langley was helpless moments later when Payne crossed and Odusina stabbed home at the far post to equalise. Idah came close for the Canaries, then in the 81st minute, Newcastle hit the woodwork only for Norwich to break swiftly, allowing Fleming to dink the ball beyond Langley.Watson''s side, though, had forced extra time against Crystal Palace in the fourth round with virtually the last kick of normal time, and repeated the trick here in the third minute of stoppage time as Wilson cut in and found the bottom corner. In the third minute of extra time, Sörensen arrived unmarked at the far post but headed wide - and in the 101st minute, Norwich scored the seventh and final goal of the evening as Idah''s shot was palmed away by Langley but Spyrou was on hand to tuck away the loose ball. This time - despite some late United pressure - there was no dramatic late twist and it was the Canaries who progressed to the last-eight, where they will be at home to Bury or Birmingham City.
