Season over

Recommended Posts

We''re on a decent run but definitely need to win a couple on the spin if we''re going to trouble those ahead of us going into the final 8-9 games. Brentford were level with us before the weekend and won their two games against ''easier'' this week to lie 4pts off 6th, showing how things can change very quickly.

If last minute goals were all then anybody who wrote us off a few games back will have missed goals by Klose and Olive. And anybody writing us off now can far cough. There''s plenty more to come. Before Xmas Maddison was off for certain, we were told. Relegation was likely as well.Well to get a bit cheesy this old war horse has got the scent of battle in his nostrils. The ''game is afoot'' Holmes used to say to Dr What''s on. And it certainly it isLooking at how we are shaping up, how the confidence is growing and the never say die spirit there''s still all too play for.

If Sheffield Utd win on Friday they''ll be 9 points above us. I''d love to be wrong, but we aren''t winning enough games. It would take a miraculous run to even get close. We need to string together a few wins and hope that some of the teams we are chasing slip up. We have a tiny glimmer of hope to cling on to.

Look at the games we have left. We’ve just played Derby, Boro, Scum and Wolves and we’ve closed the gap slightly and come out of it in good form. We now have a run of very winnable games and not too many difficult away games left. This is the time we can make a move if we are going to.
Season well and truly over...

Yet we''ve celebrated 2 equalisers, like they were title winners.
To be honest, I celebrated Ipswich like that... but last night was a good fist punch, but that’s about it. A point was a great result, but the euphoria negated by the fact it won’t amount to much. Ditto Derby away, Boro, Brentford and Bristol City.

We’re 12th in the league and on course to finish lower than last season. The level of euphoria is slightly baffling, but football is funny like that. One decent result can wipe away several poor ones sometimes.

I haven''t seen any euphoria, just people responding to what is on the pitch - in other words a team showing gumption and playing for the shirt.  In all honesty that is surely what we want to see.

You need to make sure the Barclay get your memo on the appropriate way to celebrate last minute equalisers CD. Maybe pay for a message over the tannoy next match maybe?

It does show the slim margins in football though.

Both those games end 30 seconds earlier and we''re talking about our first loss to Ipswich in 9 years and 2 losses on the bounce.

Funny old game and all that...

And Ipswich back ahead of us again.

Today’s result was all too familiar, and easily predictable.

If we’re building for next season, what can anyone actually see changing? We’re churning out the same home performances that we were 6 months ago.

We ain’t Gona see a massive upheaval of players again, the nucleus of the first team for next year is here.

I thought we could have snuck 6th, but it would have required us to win our home games.

Home form has been nothing short of awful all season and has really cost us these last 2 games

Still seven points behind sixth place as it stands....still a long shot, but if we can put a good run together we can still threaten and everyone from 7th to 14th will still think they can get there.   Just have to find that touch in front of goal!

We need 9 wins from 12 games, it''s not going to happen, anyone who seriously thinks there is hope for the play offs needs their head examining.

Just be grateful we are pretty much safe from relegation.

ron - "Might as well stop trying to win then."

Well we still need two or three more wins just to make sure we definitely stay up ;) and then there''s always the pride of finishing above Ipswich but yes that''s basically it for this season!

It is difficult to see where we go from here.

Madders would be a fool to stay

Very very poor today not sure what went wrong. But if we are pinning next season promotion hopes on Leitner and Herrendez we have a long way to go.

Forget the "importance" of the play offs...forget even the "importance" of finishing above Ipswich..this season is not about either, but this season is definitely not over, its about a total new set up off and on the pitch, both financial and sporting. So what has happened between start of the season and now? recall those first few matches...away to Millwall epitomised the new season start. But DF has built a defence that has developed into a very good solid defence.  Next, he found a set up away from home that has yielded us a good bag of points, and it continues. Then since around Xmas we have become hard to beat, 1 defeat in 13 matches proves its not a flash in the pan.We now come to what else needs to be overcome and we all know what that is, 0-0 home draws to the likes of Burton and Bolton testify to that. It seems to be the biggest and last nut to crack, but that''s DF;s job of course, to find the solution to score more at home, open up stubborn defences. That is why the season is not over, this is his test, to solve this issue, but i know one thing, when he does, we will know, and we will know that this club will be ready to challenge proper for the high spots. Dont worry about who leaves or joins in the summer, thats Webbers job and like DF, on evidence of his two transfer windows so far, i trust him.So we know what DF and Webber have to do, what about us the fans?..nothing but be patient. After just two thirds of one season more has been achieved than i thought possible in such a timeframe, but more time is needed for sure and DF , Webber and co. deserve our backing. OTBC.

The season was over on Boxing Day when we beat Birmingham to avoid a relegation battle. WIth one of the strongest squads in the league and probably the best player, it''s some achievement to be 14th and to have scored an average of one goal per game - well done Farke. Still the beauty with Webber''s strategy is it''s repeat-ability. No matter how many Borussia Dortmund reserve team coaches and lower league Bundesliga players he takes, they will be replaced so can end up at Carrow Road in the future.

Can’t score with the best attacking midfielder in the league.

We were saying Alex needed to sort the defence out when he left. Will we be saying the same of Farke and the attack when he leaves?

No better than last season, and dull to watch.

We''ve got to use the last few games to start bedding in some of the players who are part of the lingerie term. So more minutes for Hernandez, Srebney, Raggatt etc...

... lingerie term ...

Well I suppose that''s one way to try make our football more attractive. Or not. Eeeuuuww.

As to the season being over, I''ve been hearing that since last autumn. It ain''t over till it''s over, & it ain''t over yet, much as the balance of probability says we won''t make top 6.

If it was, there''d be no point to football. Or come to that, playing matches in any sport. Let''s wait & see.

I’d love to know what our season objective was from our board? Was it a top 6, promotion? Reduce the wage bill to under 17 million, without relegation?

I said from the start 14 th or above is about right considering the changes made, but with the three teams coming down next year, should Villa or Wolves not go up, they have heavy finances and decent squads to build on, what is a good season next year? Top 10 given our realistic financial clout?
