Football is going bonkers.

Brighton vs Arsenal

Stephens (Brighton) gets to the ball first, clears the ball but ''catches'' Wilshere, on the follow through - yellow card

Kolasinac (Already been booked) leads with his shoulder on Schelotto, in the air , no card

Someone may tell me the Laws applied may be correct, but if that is so, they need changing. Either that, or the Ref is incompetent and may need VAR for those decisions...........................

The Stephens yellow was crazy.

I thought the Kolasinac one was fine though. Sure the impact was heavy but it is the danger of going for 50/50 balls like that. The ref handled it really well as he could easily have let the Brighton players reactions sway him.

Spot on mate. Kolasinac never looked at the ball he made his mind up to take him out. Not as badly as he did, but he wanted to stop him.

And he had been booked so I guess the ref had plenty of time to make up his mind not to book him and send him off.

If ever there was a case to use VAR then that was it.
Good result for Brighton, up to 10th place.......that Hughton, you know, will never be up to managing in the PL.......
Isn''t that roundabout where we finished the first season he was with us ?The rest, as they say, is history.....

and he wasn''t.....for us

Alex Neil wasn''t and Preston are above us.

Both were important and good calls to dismiss them.

Paul Lambert was brilliant for us but apart from Wycombe he wasn''t anywhere else.

Steve Cotterill has been awful at Birmingham but he will get another job.

Appointing a successful manager/coach is pure luck.

Put Pep in charge of Rochdale and see how he gets on.

It certainly isn''t ''pure luck'' but there are so many variables.

The problem with the Hughton appointment is his style was so different to what had come before.

Us and Swansea both lost highly successful managers that summers- Swansea appointed someone who offered a continuation of the style that had bought them so much success and it clearly worked.

It has been asked.

Would Manchester United have appointed Alex Ferguson in today''s climate?

I would say definitely not.

Exactly

As frustrated Iam with Farkes attacking tactics and seriously question whether he''ll get it right he needs another season at least to try and do so!

Glimmer of light for me is how hes sorted the defence out!

Really good to see Brighton and Hughton doing well to be honest, always liked him here on the most part.

Really want Brighton to stay up too (and hopefully Huddersfield), I have friends who support both and both teams try to play good football. Brighton''s main worry is their reliance on Murray to get goals, but I''m sure survival will mean they can splash the cash on a few expensive buys.

That is almost right.

Saunders came in with a philosophy of how he thought he could make us successful.

And at first, it had the reverse effect. It came to a head with our home defeat in the FA Cup to Wrexham. The crowds dropped and the moaning intensified.

The following season, there was a call to boycott home matches. It failed somewhat and we went on to win the league.

The fact that the football was based on getting it forward quickly and the fitness and power of the team would overpower the opposition, made little difference to those of us who never envisaged us playing in the 1st Division or reaching Wembley finals.

The football would be considered dire nowadays but those of us around at the time will always be grateful to Ron Saunders for proving to us that we could do it.

There are some similarities with DF at the moment. And we all hope that next season is the one where it all works out right.

And on the yellow / red card situation, did anyone else think Man City''s Zinchenko deserved more than a yellow for his ''tackle'' on Willian?

Interesting to hear Gary Neville''s comments on how Man City will always use what ever means to stop their opponents from developing an attack, getting away with fouls that border on a yellow, but because they occur in their opponent''s half, they generally get away with them. They then prevent the free kick from being taken early enabling them to get back behind the ball. They''re a great side to watch going forward, but very cynical and ''professional'' defensively.

Very lucky lad to be on the pitch at the end.

You have to respect what Neville says and I think he is right.

But I think back to Pep playing for a very cynical Barcelona team and can see where he gets the ideas from.
