AJ 1,218 Posted September 12, 2005 taken from: http://www.leedsunited.com/player.asp?plid=14919&clid=2&title=Matthew+Kilgallon+Player+Profile&navlid=players Promising young central defender who has emerged through the Leeds Academy to play regularly for the reserves and is now pushing hard for a first team squad place.Born in York and educated at Tadcaster Grammar School, Matthew is widely tipped to become a regular in the United side in future. He made his United debut in the Uefa Cup against Hapoel Tel Aviv, November 2002, coming on for the injured Lucas Radebe and playing his part in a remarkable 4-1 win away from home. His Premiership debut also came as a substitute against West Ham at Elland Road in February 2003. He joined the Hammers for a three month loan spell at the start of the 2003/4 season, impressing despite a turbulent time for the Upton Park club. He also went on to play for England under-20''s in their ill-fated World Youth Championships campaign in the UAE. He later went on to make his England under-21 debut and is still a key member of that squad. His signed a two year contract extension in the summer of 2004 and despite the arrival of more competition last season in the form of Paul Butler and Clarke Carlisle, still established himself in Kevin Blackwell''s side and proved his adaptability by playing at left-back when needed--------sounds promising, and abit like our shacks (minus the england bit)
Crazy Eddie 0 Posted September 12, 2005 If he''s as good as the Leeds fans seem to think ("better than Woodgate" being a popular description) then it''d surprise me if Leeds loaned him to a rival club
ZLF 261 Posted September 12, 2005 Comparing him to shacks is spot on AJ - a talented youngster who may go far, but not as good as Shacks. But can Worthy really think a central defensive pairing of 2 21yo can work in this battering ram of a league??Pearce, who is clearly not coming, or Thome would be better options at sharing their experience with Shacks. Mind you we should really give doc and shacks a go before we sign anymore central defenders...Ooops - forgot Flem would play with whoever is signed. ZLF 261 Posted September 12, 2005 Preferably I would want an experienced centre back to partner shacks to aid in his development but if we have signed davenport then we have to use him - we have cover with doc so its not cover he has come here as is it?Unless Shacks is the one to be rested? Crazy Eddie 0 Posted September 13, 2005 I, like many others, have been critical of Fleming of late - slow, not great in air - and see Davenport as an improvement - tall, quicker - however, I am not sure Worthy will/should risk a new partnership of Shack & Dav for 2 tough away fixtures - Watford & Scum. Maybe Davenport should remain a sub until next home game?
