George Smiley 3 Posted April 17, 2018 In the middle of reading a book about his life . During his very successful time at Forest he was annoyed that their ground wasn''t full for important games when they were playing well,, so for a short period of time he banned the local radio commentary of the game to boost attendances .Do you think it would work for us ? I can''t imagine missing canary call .
lappinitup 629 Posted April 17, 2018 Even without commentary they could still have canary call....Comedy gold. [:D]
SwindonCanary 455 Posted April 17, 2018 There''s a lot of other clubs that are worse off than us on attendances !
Guest Posted April 17, 2018 Cloughie was a brilliant coach but had some very bizarre attitudes for someone purporting to be a socialist.Football was so much cheaper in his day and affordable so I doubt it was money that stopped people going. It depends on what era he is describing? GPs Beard 0 Posted April 17, 2018 This was a popular view at the time . Clough and many others felt that people wouldn''t go if they could listen to the game.Hard to believe now, but back in the day , the authorities, and clubs , were concerned about televising live games as they felt it would reduce attendances. When ITV first started showing live games , I remember a big debate about it. Of course it seems that it was misplaced , as covering games just made the sport more popular and glamorous , and now doesn''t seem to have any effect on gates. Times change. BobLoz3 492 Posted April 17, 2018 Ban TV! Ban the radio! Ban streaming services! Ban the internet!God... There''s going to be a lot of unhappy broadcasters, programmers, marketing people and commercial directors out of a job. But that''s ok. At least they''ll show up at the ground to support their respective teams![:P]
Lessingham Canary 99 Posted April 17, 2018 1p5wich have gone the other way and just banned the crowds, no more than 12,000 allowed in at a time, but if you stay at home you will be able get a dodgy stream or local radio coverage !
kingsway 94 Posted April 17, 2018 A large % of those listening into Radio Norfolk live coverage have no interest in going or can''t go cause they are too old!I''m sure you''d gain a odd few people by banning Norfolk!
