Congratulations Delia.

The Queen managed to catch up with the one person she is in awe of.https://www.canaries.co.uk/News/2017/november/delia-smith-award/
No Damehood? Got to be due surely?
I should think she has been asked and turned that down, probably for egalitarian reasons, and the CoH award is far more prestigious anyway.

only 60ish CoH (capped at 65 max I think) compared to how many knighthoods?

As purple says, a much more elite circle. Congrats Delia

Not a believer in any honours system but as it exists it has to be congratulations to Delia.

I have some German/Austrian blood too through my dad''s side of the family (Nan from Vienna and Grandad who is half German)... I think the royal family have more in common with lizards, don''t they? [;)]

The CH is one level below the OM so it does seem odd that she has received it for services to cooking when you consider other holders past and present. A dame hood would have been a more likely award.

Perhaps a little more recognition for all the Cancer surgeons and people who change peoples lives rather than a woman who bakes cakes

I wonder if she''ll have to pop up to Sandringham to sort out the Xmas lunchIt can''t be much fun having to cook lunch, change and then sit down to read out the speech as wellmaybe Delia could help out by reading the speech instead, be great to see her peering out of the screen and shouting  "c''mon let''s be having ya, where are ya'' at folk lay snoozing on the couch

Doubtlessly there are numerous ''smutty'' comments that can be made about stuffing, chipolatas and such like... even Christmas balls but I shall leave those to the lower orders on here to bring the tone down.Though I did once here a ''joke'' about the Variety Show and the Royal Box, which I never quite understood so I shall remain aloof.

It appears that Greggs have on sale a advent calendar that has a sausage roll in the crib instead of the baby Jesus. It doesn''t say whether the sausage rolls are hot eitherStrange times we live in, methinks
Surely our resident socialists don’t approve of honours of this sort.

Well done Delia.👍
Well, it is awarded for genuine achievement deemed to have enriched (metaphorically) the life of the country, as opposed to rewarding political favours and the like, and it doesn''t entitle the recipients to be an unelected part of the democratic process, so it ranks high on the list of justifiable honours in a system aspects of which can certainly be criticised from several points of view, and not just a socialist one.

RF,

Or to herd donkeys on the green, green pastures of Carrow Rd, like sheep to the slaughter. I just had to, I just had to. It was too good a humorous opportunity to miss. Made me chuckle anyway!!

But then I often make myself laugh, Nurse!!

If you feel she deserves an honour more than surgeons etc then enjoy your cupcakes

PS The list of so called celebrities who are honoured is endless
Wasn''t the point being made that if you want them to get recognition you can do something about it rather that this poor straw man argument?
