norfolkbroadslim 225 Posted November 23, 2017 We have as everyone knows gone down the route of the sporting director with a head coach instead of a manager being in control of all of these functions. One of the reasons we did this (forgive me if my old brain is playing tricks on me), was because we no longer wanted a manager who was in charge of everything. Because that meant that if/when that manager left there would be lots of cost in terms of money and time upheavel, disruption and changes to the whole club that would need to be made. What we now have is meant to be a structure where when a manager (head coach) leaves, there will be as minimal as possible, disruption and changes. All good, right? Well perhaps not. What we also have however, is a situation where as middling Championship Club, we have restricted ourselves to managers/head coaches who are prepared to work under a sporting director. Is this an attractive proposition to a good manager. Perhaps it might not be as much of an issue at bigger clubs, your Barcelonas, Real Madrids, Bayern Munichs etc. But we are far from them and as a result we have restricted the potential pool of managers who would come to us. Conversely, is this not a bad thing, because if a manager is not prepared to work under a sporting director then they become irrelevant to us anyway? What happens (and this is my concern), however, if we go through, 3, 4, 5 head coaches and things don''t improve or get worse? Does that mean that it''s Webber, the sporting director who is the problem? What happens if it is indeed Webber who has been the problem all along? How will the benefits of the new set-up help us then? This is indeed my major concern. We have given Webber the keys, the crown jewels, full access and reign to implement everything he wants. All of this, in the grand scheme of things, to a man who is relatively inexpereinced. We have given total complete 100% trust that his way and ideas are right. If Webber is the problem, we are in my opinion in a much worse position than, if, as we have done in the past, given these things to a manager. Why? Because it could take 3, 4, 5 head coaches before it becomes apparent to those at the top that it is in fact Webber who is the problem. All of that time, money and dwindling resources wasted, gone. Where as if we had a traditional managerial set-up it becomes apparent much more quickly, where the problem is and what needs to be done to address it. At the end of the day, we are still left with the situation we started with at the beginning, where to address the problem it has cost us a lot of time, money, upheavel, disruption and changes. But, that it has taken us a lot more time and cost us a lot more money to get there.

Rogue Baboon 0 Posted November 23, 2017 We haven''t shot ourselves in the foot, we are still passing it around waiting for someone else to take the shot...
Paul Spector 0 Posted November 23, 2017 Conversely, we are in a much better position if things are going well and one of our managers is poached by a club higher up the pyramid...Certainly a bit of a calculated gamble - given it is breaking from the norm. But given our relative lack of resources compared to other Championship clubs we have had to think outside the box. 4 months ago we were all excited by the changes - Rome wasn''t built in a day... Lessingham Canary 108 Posted November 23, 2017 Mark Twain once said "Put all of your eggs in one basket, and then watch that basket like a hawk"I recently discovered when examining my past, i started out life as a child, by coincedence so did my brother. Guess my mother never put all her eggs in one basket, she gave me a younger brother and that taught both of us that it was "survival of the fittest", is there a right or wrong by putting your eggs in one basket, i dont think so. Making Plans 957 Posted November 23, 2017
Rome wasn''t built in a day...
True but after 6 months they at least had a plan of how they were going to build it, who was going to do what, which bit went where, how it all fited together and what it was going to look like when they finished. After 6 months we still haven''t got a clue.
Guest Posted November 23, 2017 There does seem to be a feeling that we are the poor relations when it comes to Championship clubs.I don''t think it is completely true and shouldn''t be used as an excuse for poor football.Losing to better teams is understood and probably reluctantly expected. But not every owner in the Championship has spent big and doesn''t intend to. And they won''t be baling them out.We still had parachute payments for this season but if we are preparing for two or three seasons ahead rather than going for it now then that is our own fault. Capt. Pants 5,003 Posted November 23, 2017 In my opinion we shouldn''t be too concerned with operational structures and changes through the club as the only thing that is important is what happens when the players cross the white line. I don''t think there is too much wrong that a few good results can''t fix. I believe our current squad is capable of doing well in this league, we just need a more positive approach and actually try and win games. To give him credit DF has done well to get the squad playing the way he wants this quickly, however it doesn''t look like a style that will win many games and is dreadful to watch. Some players seem more comfortable with possession football than others and in my opinion it doesn''t suit Murphy, Jerome, Watkins or Wildschutt, who prefer the ball being moved forward faster. Maddison is starting to have less and less impact on games too. We don''t know how Pritchard will do yet. However, a change in attitude and approach then these players are more than capable of doing very well in this league.People keep comparing us with Huddersfield because of Webber, but we play nothing like them. Farke changes his approach and he could be very successful here, or at least move the club forwards. It''s the hope that kills you!
norfolkngood 1,174 Posted November 23, 2017 i dont like the set up of Director of football / head coach just say Farke is very good but Webber is useless signing wrong players etc and results are still bad Farke gets the boot meaning we still have the problem heredo the players know who is in charge webber or farke ?we also have to pay two wages where a good manager would be able to do both jobs Webber done well at Huddersfield but they kept Wagner who i think should get alot of credit for the way they are playing and getting up just remember Lambert did better than webber when he was a Norwich and done nothing since
