450-500K a week !!!!!

Recommended Posts

This is what Man Utd are agreeing to pay Alex Sanchez, according to Talksport this morning.  Around two million pounds a month, so time for a wage-cap methinks !!!!

How can there be a wage cap? This is a private company paying an employee what they think he''s worth - not coming out of taxation or anything like that.

Totally obscene but it''s up to them.

It will come back to bite them though as I''m sure this will spread dissent in the squad at pay differentials.  If not a pay cap, how about a much higher tax rate for those on this ridiculous money. It is 50% on salaries above 150K, so maybe 75% if over 2 million.... ??

It does put things into perspective - Alexis Sanchez is apparently worth, in a week, the full annual cost of around 100 nurses. Short career it may be, but just a couple of months of that kind of salary and you''d never need to work again.

Obscene as it is, there are a few players in world football who you could get and think that yes, the salary goes several levels beyond ridiculous but if thats what it takes to get the player, that player in particular then thats what had to be done...But certainly not Sanchez.Go through the top players in the Premier League, how far down the list would he come in your preferences of someone you''d love at your club.Above De Bruyne, Aguero, Kane, Hazard and a few others?Nope. He''s good. But worth THAT much? Still, they went OTT with Lukaku as well in terms of the fee and wages, seems that the allure of playing for Man Utd these days is how much they''re willing to pay rather than the fact that Man Utd want you to play for them.

Hang on, are we saying there is talk of Sanchez leaving Arsenal?

They''ve kept that quiet.

Maybe the FA should implement a squad-wide wage cap. Would work on several levels.

I wonder how many of the other Man Utd players have been on to their agents this morning about a pay rise? Not good for the group of players already there i would say especially as Sanchez already has that reputation of it all being about him and him alone.

I’m sure Man U will still make plenty of profit. In fact they will probably make more now Sanchez is there. Football is massive and the money that comes into Man U has to go somewhere. If sanchez didn’t get it, some fat cat shareholder would.

I’m sure the number 1 medical specialist and probably the top 100 will be n a fair whack as well. It’s a sad state of affairs but it’s simple economics as to why the nurses and teachers etc don’t get paid more. If they all decided to walk out, some other mug would come in and replace them. If not, then perhaps they might get a pay rise or the nhs might just collapse if it became unaffordable to keep the staff happy. The government is too busy wasting our money on shitty contracts with their mates to be spending money on the commoners services.

I`m sure I have seen figures online quoting that the exchequer receives £2.4 billion from the EPL in tax and vatIf Sanchez is paid £500k per week then he "should" be paying around £250k per week in taxHere`s the question.... If Sanchez was paid half that amount and the tax take was half that, then who would gain?

It is done in other sports. If the governing body of that sport deems it then those involved have to accept it or are fined and/or docked points.

If you look at the £450k purported weekly wage at being equivalent to around 15 Naismiths, then the Sanchez figure seems much the better value!

Clubs will look at the total cost of a transfer; wages, transfer fees, bonuses, signing on fees etc. as one whole thing.

Man U will probably value Sanchez as someone who is as good as a player who will cost £60m/£70m/£80m in the summer, so might as well get him for less than that now - even if it means paying him a huge amount of money.

It will ultimately mean he is probably a bit of a burden for them in a couple of seasons time, but there is always China to take these kind of players now.

His quality is unquestionable, 60 goals in about 120 games for Arsenal in the Prem, 80 in 160 in all competitions, many of those games he has played on the right wing.

Man U earn a huge amount from their commercial deals, considerably more than any other Premier League team and can easily afford the wage demands of Alexis.

Money is killing the game, its being thrown around like Monopoly money.

As to killing the game, im not sure, but given the chance to compete against a fat cat club like night against Chelsea, we absolutely competed with them, equalled with them over 2 Cup games, despite the massive gulf in finance.

What has nurses salaries got to do with football? It’s one of those ridiculous comments that get thrown around that’s has absolutely no relevance. Yes it’s silly money but he’s hardly going to turn it down, is he?

For the record I''d like to say I think Norwich are going the right way, players not looking for the money, but players that want to play at this level

I know it''s not exactly comparable but it''s not far off what he top players in American sports receive. Steph Curry earns $34.5m a year in salary alone in the NBA, LeBron is just behind that and there are another 13 players earning north of $25m a year.

The solution was mentioned earlier in the thread.

Introduce another tax threshold for those ''earning'' above (say) £2M per annum to 75%.

That has a double effect.

Either with those wages the country would have more income or the players would not think it worth their while if they had to pay so much tax and would leave the Premiership so that more English players could play in the English Premiership.

That would help the national team no end!

Or the players would be paid for ''image rights'' into accounts in the Cayman Islands and pay zero tax. You already see that a lot of players now set themselves up as companies and have part of their salary paid to the ''company'' and pay corporation tax, which is considerably lower than income tax.

A tax regime isn''t going to change how much players get paid, they tried that in France and players just found more creative ways of getting their money without tax.

You don''t need individual salary caps, we need them for teams. So then Man U get to decide if Sanchez is worth that chunk of their wage budget or if they need to split it between 3 players.

You could have a team wage cap or variation of.

That way you could pay a lot of one person or spread it around more. a la NFL

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salary_cap

NFL 2016 $167 million cap per team £120 million £

Manchester city £244 million

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/11/08/manchester-city-wage-bill-rises-25-244m-pep-guardiolas-first/

Manchester United £263 million

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/11/16/man-utd-enjoy-huge-increase-revenues-despite-wage-bill-soaring/

Its all fun for a while then it becomes a bit boring Leicester winning the premier league was fantastic i can hardly remember the other winners recently as its a boring limited selection.

At one small stage the "smaller'' teams had a boost after the television deal which meant they too could have a team of internationals and it felt like progress culminating with Leicester.

This latest bout of wages though is utterly silly and undoing that progress. It will be interesting if a revolution in the gulf or sudden loss of interest from a sugar daddy in the premier league will bring the bubble down.

For teams like Norwich the game is about buying players for 500k and selling for millions now.

Ipswich where so lucky their golden days happened when they did, today those players + manager would be out the door after a season.
