The squad seems lacking with any characters with leadership qualities. You usually look to the captain. Although a footballer with integrity, over time he''s never inspired his troops. Currently, we have a squad of youngsters and players from the German leagues. It''s not the sole reason for our inability to defend and eagerness to crumble so quickly but it would help in situations where we clearly need some resilience!

Yep, it has been a problem for a few years now. I think it was Klose who commented early into his career that he was amazed by the lack of leadership on the pitch (think this was after the Liverpool game) and we don''t seem to have got any closer to addressing it.

Leadership should have been one of the key things we were looking for in the new players in the spine of the team but I don''t see it in Gunn, Franke, Reed ot Vranic.

Martin is not a leader.

Klose is currently injured and inable to act as a leader.

Tetty is not leadership material.

Gunn is not showing Ruddy''s motivational strength between the sticks.

It''s a void that is very apparent on the pitch when things don''t immediately go our way.

We need leaders all over the pitch. We need players who are prepared to earn the right to play their football. We have too many who think their ability is enough to get them through.

Totally agree. The lack of leaders is a problem however an even bigger problem imo is the lack of players able to dig and get the dirty work done.

Russell Martin is a fantastic leader. A fantastic captain. And i won''t hear another word about it.
