Goals today

Recommended Posts

Why are so many blaming Husband? Having just seen them the player who is at fault for every goal is Franke! He has been culpable for most goals this season too!

Franke has been poor, but he is doing the job of two men covering for Husband all the time. Husband is constantly out of position (although quite where he goes I have no idea because he offers f*** all going forward either). It sucks Franke out to cover, then we are exposed in the middle. Happened for the first goal last week, and same again for the second goal today.
Having watched the entire game, what the highlights don''t show is the two open goals, one missed off the bar, and one rescued by Pinto that were both caused by Husband. Husband managed to fluff a simple headed clearance and pass it straight to their striker in the box 15 yards out instead of forwards and to safety. Husband was absolutely at fault for the first goal too - Yes, Franke gets beat in the air, but when he saw Franke going for it, he should have swung across to cover - he ball watches, looks startled to see the Millwall forward as he had no idea he was there, and then instead of chasing him down, does a bizarre little hop and looks at the corner flag (no idea why, very odd).
Franke bears some responsibility for a lot of the poor defending but Husband is the real problem, and the opposition are targetting that because it is so obvious what a weak link he is. Unless it''s just "coincidence" that every team we play are directing almost every attack at Husband.

Agree in parts BUT Husband was still woeful.

Think Franke will be ''rested'' next match.

Franke was beaten in the air for the first two goals, that''s hardly down to Husband is it?

Admittedly highlights don''t show it all but the guy constantly gets beaten in the air which for a centre back is abysmal!

Having watched the highlights, the third goal I think it was saw 7 Norwich players in the frame with the goalscorer in acres of space.

A systemic problem not an individual failure.

Klose is left footed - Goreham made reference to Farke wanting a left footer and right footer on each side of the CB pairing so presumably Klose will be taking Franke''s spot when he is fit (PLEASE hurry up Timm!). But as aforementioned, Franke is having to cover for Husband as well as doing his own job. You can tell that from the first goal - Husband is the nearest player to the ball, but Franke goes for it because he clearly doesn''t trust Husband. Not defending Franke''s decision or attempt to win the header, because both were poor.
Franke got beat in the air, but Husband watches him go for it, has no awareness of what''s going on, and if he had any defensive qualities at all, would have nipped round the back of Franke and cut the ball out or challenged the striker, but he doesn''t, because he''s s*** so just ball watched and didn''t even chase the striker down.
The second goal is not even in the air so not sure what you''re talking about there? It was the entire defence getting sucked out to the left to cover for Husband being miles out of position again - you can just see him jogging back in the top of the picture on the highlights, which left Pinto trying to defend on his own in the area.
As someone who watched the entire game today on iFollow, and was at Villa Park last week, I can assure you Husband really is as s*** as he is being made out to be. There are literally no words for him, he is genuinely the worst player I have ever seen in a city shirt. Can''t defend, can''t attack, has no positional awareness.
3 of the 4 Villa goals were Husband''s fault. 2 today.

Watch it again, Franke gets beaten in the air by the touch line on the second goal!

Have watched it again, and it''s not in the air, you''ve made that up. The highest it gets is when it hits the millwall player''s hand, at waist height, with Martin and Reed around him, Franke is nowhere near, as he had gone out to cover for husband, hence the fact Martin also gets sucked across to cover for both of them.

That''s the QPR highlights. 4 QPR chances shown.
First - a shot from a through ball - 3 of the defenders are holding the line. Guess which one of the 4 is 10 yards up the pitch leaving a gaping hole?
Second - Embarrassing defending. In between the striker and ball, all he has to do is hit row Z or hoof upfield. Decides to tw*t around with it, fall over, and complain whilst the winger goes through, plants it on the striker''s head 6 yards out but he fluffs it.
Third - Poor CB play - not on Husband
Fourth - Long shot - Gunn parries, Husband completely loses his man, doesn''t chase the rebound and his man gets there and lays it on a plate for washington who is muscled out of it by Zimmermann and we get away with it.
Even the one decent defensive display we have had this season, he was an absolute liability and we were lucky that two of those didn''t end up in the net, which they easily could have done. They had two golden chances, and one decent one, all caused by Husband.
That link is v QPR 😂
That was the point - our only clean sheet, our only decent defensive performance of the season, and we still could easily have drawn or worse due to Husband being a liability.
Franke is beaten in the air just before that footage, look at goals on Channel 5 and you will see!
I''ll take your word for it, but again, why is Franke trying to win a header in the Left Back position. Surely that should be the job of our Left Back, James Husband. Except he wasn''t there, because he was f**king miles out of position and ambling back at a leisurely pace. Again. Just like at Villa last week. Just like at QPR a few days before. He does nothing except f**king ball watch.
I''m not saying Franke is good, because he''s not, but both aerial challenges you''re pinning on him, came from Husband being out of position. He is the Left Back but Franke is having to cover for him in the Left Back position constantly. If Husband is in position, then Franke doesn''t need to go for either header. Not saying the goals wouldn''t have happened, but we''d have had a much better chance if Franke was able to concentrate on his own job. Certainly the first would likely have been prevented if Husband had been challenging for the aerial ball, or had the positional sense to sweep round and cover Franke.

Hopefully Klose and Toffolo back after the break, assuming that they''re both still here.

Franke evidently hasnt adapted yet, so it has to be Klose (i believe he''s meant to be back) and Zimmerman after the international break. But to expect them to be a serious marked improvement while the defensive work is so poor from the rest of the team is not going to happen. we need another physical player in midfield (alongside Reed) who can put a defensive shift in and two fullbacks who can defend. I think we all forgive Pinto because he''s a threat going forwards but imo he has always been poor defensively.
