Striker options January

Recommended Posts

Hopefully Nelson can get the specialist treatment he needs but even with this we cannot go through second half of the season with Cam .

Who is out there that is a feasible option? Dwight Gayle will be too much but potential loan?

Are there any lower league gems that a gamble can be taken on ?

Newcastle wanted 18million for Gayle in the summer.

Villa paid 12million for Hogan.

We can forget about any striker that has played in the Championship recently I think - they will almost certainly all be out of our budget. As for lobs I cannot see an ‘experienced’ striker being loaned between Champs clubs.

We''d have more dosh if we hadn''t have brought Hanley at the end of August. But I guess we''ll see the benefit of him if Klose is injured again. Won''t we?

With a shortfall of over £32 million next season the only thing we might be doing of significance in January is to sell. More likely is the recall of Morris and the summer sale of our best players to plug the hole.

We''ve got to get Carlton Morris in the mix!

Here''s some other who could work:

Alex Isak

Kei Kamara

Diafra Sakho

Karl Ekambi

Ollie Watkins

Mbokani

Seb Haller

Fanendo Adi

Lys Mousset

Devante Cole

Jermaine Beckford

Dominic Dwyer

Raphinha

Raphinha[/quote]MLS fan, are you?  Kamara is old and didn''t work out at Boro, but Adi is a hold-up poacher and cheap.  I''d take him in a heartbeat.

I''ve mentioned him a few times before but I think we should bring in Nakhi Wells. Has a definite poacher''s instinct.

Might cost c.£4m so a need to sell.

I’d liked to have seen one of the kids on the bench while Nelson is injured. Cam is out of sorts, so 15 minutes for a youngster would have been good.

Playing with Cam would be even better. He’s always encouraging the youngsters.

We should not rule out re-inventing our own players. There are several instances of clubs changing midfielders or defenders into strikers. This happened with Ginger Pele and I understand that Stiepermann was a striker in Germany.

Surely we can be creative.

We won’t sign a recognised Prem striker on loan as wages would be a big factor and we are told we’re skint.

The best option you will see in January is Carlton Morris, he has scored a few for Shrewsbury so why not give him a go here? He can be no worse than Jerome or Watkins surely?

we need 2.I''d take some 30+ journeyman looking for one last payday

A lower league gem or up and coming foreign starlet. We badly gambled on no one in the summer

We are 3 strikers short. Watkins is not a striker (not sure what he even is; mistake perhaps?). As an emergency measure we could do worse than put Murphy up front. We need to get ourselves into a position where we are competing for automatic promotion before January and, only then, could we justify pushing the boat out and bringing in a couple of strikers to push for promotion.

Maybe but have to be realistic - 9 games last season in the Championship admittedly for Rotherham, but zero goals scored. This season 15 league games with 4 goals for Shrewsbury. I''d love him to be the answer to our goals problem, but sadly don''t think so.

Morris is the only option really. We haven''t got the money for anyone else and there''s no point having an experienced player from the lower league''s taking up wages just for the sake of cover.

Although he''s a pretty much perfect club for him right now and I think bringing him back to play mostly in the u-23''s won''t do him any good.

Sorry, but some of the names mentioned in this thread are ludicrous! Mbokani commands 80k a week. Bobby Reid? That would be 10 million absolute minimum.

Realistically our best option is just to get Oliveira sorted and plug on as we are. We''re not getting promoted or relegated this year so there''s no point in gambling. Money is tight now and we simply can''t afford even a half decent L1 striker.

I think Murphy could work as a striker for the mean time. He''s a decent finisher and his positioning, movement, speed suits. His goal at Arsenal was that of a striker who hugs the last man.... why not give him a whirl? I feel our tippy tappy play doesn''t necessarily need a hold up man, it just needs someone to finish the move off as a no9...We don''t lack players behind a striker

Or do we have to support the ones we have from midfield?

Last season, although a different method of getting the ball up the pitch, we played one up front but managed to be the leading (equal) goalscorers in the league.

Morris is out for the season on loan and we can''t buy unless we sell. And who is up for grabs that we don''t want to lose?

A couple of points re comments above. Carlton Morris on season long loan cannot be recalled unless Shrewsbury wish to cancel. As for loans we have two domestic loans Gunn and Reed only option for loans come from non domestic clubs.

Useful info there Pete, if correct.

I am beginning to suspect that even Carlton Morris, who there was every reason to build up as a force for the future, might not quite make it at the level we require.

Early days and there''s a lot to persevere with but his loan record recently suggests that he is currently not good enough to fulfil our needs.

With Jerome dipping in our collective admiration because he cannot score, doesn''t ever look like scoring except on the very odd occasions can no longer be considered an actual striker as such and Olly seemingly always unavailable

we no longer seem to possess a credible strike force.

Add this to our crab-like tactics from goalkeeper straight into the welcome and waiting opposition defences and Norwich City goals have become a rarity not experienced since the worst of the Hughton days .... which were against far better defences.

Striker options? We just need a striker. We start games without one.
