James Husband

He appears to have had a one month loan deal with Huddersfield in Jan 16, so perhaps that''s the Webber connection.

If we were interested then surely it would have been part of the Howson deal?

It may well be. I seem to remember Andreu arriving shortly after Neil arrived, but not on the same day.

Double signing announcement today? Leistner and Husband?

Hasn''t really played much, but a good age and would be good competition for our youngsters.

Leistner, at 26 should be pushing towards his peak, but can''t help but think Bennett wasnt too good on the ground not very quick and decent in the air, so 3 million is a lot for his replacement, who hasn''t played at a higher level. Hopefully it''ll be a lot less.

Both speculation but both areas needed to be covered and in our budget.

Middlesbrough fans not bothered by this apparently, obviously Webber has seen something though so fingers crossed he''s what we need.

Since, according to another thread, we are skint and heading towards bankruptcy, I guess we do need to Husband what few resources we have left...

Alittle worrying that they dont even seem to think he''s been any good at championship level, but as a defender it''s more important how the defence clicks together as a unit than individuals. Time will tell, hopefully he''ll be great. I think the big issue with signing the players from Germany or Reserves, is you cant tend to tell if they are rated by the selling clubs fans, personally i''d like to see one or two of the betters players from lower league signed up. Either way a left back in the door was essential.

Still young for a defender, I''d have preferred someone a bit bigger physically but we can''t complain too much with what we had to spend. I haven''t seen him play but look forward to seeing what he can do in a yellow shirt.

I quite like this signing, if without knowing too much about the guy: Webber was clear when he started out that he wanted players to fit the role required of them - this could well mean a player who doesn''t fit at their current club as they don''t play a game that suits their abilities. We''re clearly going for a style of play that is more technical, something that is a little different in this country. I certainly wouldn''t be too concerned at what boro fans think.

Agreed Branston. None of us know how this will pan out of course but I love the way we are doing business.

I assume this is helped by the obvious improved relationship with the media via Webber.

It just feels like the early days of McNasty and Bowkett.

Ok fair enough, it''s pre season and the old (romantic) positivity is seeping through!

Another new signing out of the blue, its such a breath of fresh air compared to the AN era,i recall all to well the long running sagas we went thru with the likes of Afobe, Gayle, Brady and the ridiculous events with the Fulham striker  before he went to Villa.Attacking LB..well, welcome "Jimmy", if your attacking prowess is half as good as Evertons Jimmy Husband a few decades back, we are in for a treat, just hope your defendings better than his was.Young, hungry, financially future proofed for next season, another position covered. Well done City, the teams taking shape, just need a new CB and maybe a striker now. We can and will of course, argue the merits of the team as we go thru the new season, but no denying Webber gets things done in the transfer windows, unlike the torture we often suffered in the AN era.

Having had a very quick peruse on twitter the response from Middlesbrough fans mainly seems to be that he''s a decent player but a victim of George Friend''s success (and consistent fitness), meaning he was never able to get a chance to prove himself in their side.

Hopefully looks like a tidy and sensible (if unspectacular) piece of business.

Look looking for one or two central defenders and a midfielder now, right?

Looks a very good signing on paper - plays in a back four or as a wing back and happy to get forward, with good crossing ability.

Rated highly by Fulham when there, but seemed to fall foul of the Luke Garbutt loan from Everton.

As Essjayess says, early and decisive action in the transfer market is very impressive - let''s hope they''re all good!

Can anyone help, I can find statistics on appearance and goals for each year apart from last season.

It seems as though Huddersfield didn''t want him last season after a the previous season when they finished near bottom of championship. Though maybe Boro required him for premiership would be interesting to find out last season stats.

This window is definitely showing a "Moneyball" vibe for me - limited resources, ruthless attitude to the existing squad, focus on gaps in the squad and no-nonsense about getting business done.

Of course, Baseball is easier for using that approach because positions are more individual and specialised.  Football is all about the way the players combine on the pitch, especially the defence & indeed the approach of the whole side when you don''t have the ball.  So how it pans out is a completely different question.  But thus far, it''s the sort of approach we need IMO.

Just seen on the OneBoro forum (Terrible format) that last season the manager actually changed formation when Friend wasn''t available just so they didn''t have to play Husband. Their fans seemed to indicate he just wasn''t up to premiership standard.

He didn''t do great on his loan spells either which leads me to wonder who out of him and Toffolo will get to be our first choice. I really think Toffolo deserves a chance with us!

Of all the Summer acquisitions this one excites me the least and mixed reports about his previous don''t help.

When Neil took us up at ''Boro''s expense some suggested that we sign George Friend. Now we sign his understudy which I suppose is the price of two seasons of failure.

However, there are encouraging things about this player and he must have impressed somebody at Carrow Road (Webber?) in a positive way so we have to have faith in his selection and hope that it turns out to be an inspired signing, which it could well be.

Webber said throughout the Summer, we needed two left backs.

In a recent interview, he said we need one left back,

Now assuming Toffolo will be sticking around to be back up to Husband - That scares me.

Yet another occasion where too many fans are writing a player off before he''s even kicked a ball for us!If after a month or two he''s played like garbage and looked awful then I''d expect some of the responses, but at this stage it''s just a joke tbh. We''ve had ''big money'' players who''ve come in and done very little (and certainly at times haven''t justified their fee OR wages), and we''ve had players who cost very little who have been club legends (e.g. Holt, Crook, even Jerome for that matter as 1.5mil is relative peanuts for a striker), so how about with give the players like Husband, Vranjic, Zimmermann et al, a fair crack of the whip before slating them unfairly ffs?

IB exactly my thoughts, how do people rate Dijks after his spell here, would they be happy to pay 4 million plus the 30k a week wage? I''m pretty sure there''s not too much between Husband and Dijks, it''ll be interesting to see how good Farke is in getting the best from these players.
