Rogue Baboon 0 Posted August 4, 2017 Real football about to start...Lewis Grabban & James Vaughan v Martin, Johnson, Butterfield and Wisdom...How on earth have Sunderland ended up with James Vaughan as their main striker?
king canary 7,455 Posted August 4, 2017 On paper there doesn''t seem to be a great deal to fear from either side.
Making Plans 929 Posted August 4, 2017 Not exactly a full house, in fact almost empty.Life in the Championship is probably hard to take when you''ve escaped the drop for years on end
Rogue Baboon 0 Posted August 4, 2017 It would appear somebody forgot to tell the Sunderland fans that there was a game tonight.Re. James Vaughan - £500k for a guy that scored 24 goals in League One may actually turn out to never a shrewd bit of business
Van wink 2,994 Posted August 4, 2017 Looks like Sunderland will be pushing the scummers for this seasons Mary Celeste award

KiwiScot 1,418 Posted August 4, 2017 Sunderland sounding well drilled. Was hoping they would be a mess before they played us.
Darth Canary1 91 Posted August 4, 2017 They look pretty good, Sunderland that is. Derby look disjointed and quite frankly awful but early days
Rogue Baboon 0 Posted August 4, 2017 Sunderland look well drilled but seem to have little in the final 3rd
ron obvious 1,473 Posted August 4, 2017 Thought they both looked pretty awful. Individual bits of brilliance, but neither side seemed to have much of a plan. Suspect if we played like that Farke would go Farking berserk.
hogesar 9,503 Posted August 4, 2017 Can never read too much into the first game but Sunderland look to be lacking big time in quality bar Grabban. Derby have a bit more about them but bar Russell little movement at the top end of the pitch.
daly 497 Posted August 4, 2017 Is Grabbans missus in the crowdOr is she wondering which box to open
Essjayess 307 Posted August 4, 2017 Lots of hustle and bustle, fluster and bluster, typical Championship fare. Makes me wonder just how much DFs brand and style of football will stand out in the Champs this season. Not long to wait and find out now i guess.
Lessingham Canary 99 Posted August 4, 2017 What a disapointing game, so much long ball and not enough quality, even Johnny Russel was well below par imo.
kick it off 1,927 Posted August 4, 2017 It was quite amusing hearing the Sunderland fans roar as Grabban was chasing down the last defender who had the ball. They clearly haven''t realised he couldn''t hit a barn door yet. Even if he''d won the ball and gone clean through, smart money would have been on him fluffing it. Hoola Han Solo 448 Posted August 4, 2017 Grabban was a decent player for us.
kick it off 1,927 Posted August 5, 2017
Grabban was a decent player for us.
He started off well in August and scored 5 in 5 in the first 3 weeks, and was then absolutely useless for most of the season. He went 5 months scoring 1 goal in total (14th September to February), despite starting nearly every game (I think Jerome was injured for a bit but could be wrong). He then had a decent spell with 5 in 5 over the course of 2 weeks shortly after Neil took over, got injured for 6 weeks and didn''t score again in the last few games, although he did manage that stupid Red card at Rotherham away that cost us the game (not that it mattered in the end, and thankfully meant he was suspended for playoffs). So he was a very good player for a total of 5 weeks, then other 5 months of the only season he was used significantly, and he was available; he was utter shyte. In the Prem, he wasn''t really used and managed 1 goal (Aaron Wilbraham managed a Prem goal in under half the minutes it took Grabban to get his).https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lewis-grabban/leistungsdaten/spieler/35413/plus/0?saison=2014
king canary 7,455 Posted August 5, 2017 Grabban is a streaky player, finishing looked decent if he was acting on instinct but give him any time to think about it and he went to pieces. He did help us get up and we sold him for more than double what we paid so it worked out ok.
kick it off 1,927 Posted August 5, 2017 Agree that the deal as a whole worked out (although some would argue we''d have gone up automatically with a more clinical striker) but to say he was a ''good player'' for us is just silly
king canary 7,455 Posted August 5, 2017 Nobody has said he was. The word used before was ''decent'' which sounds fair enough to me.
