sgncfc 1,204 Posted April 30, 2017 Scores twice as Vitesse win a trophy for the first time ever and qualify for the Europa league. Opposition keeper was Tim Krul.Still think we got the best out of him? Or maybe we didn''t have a clue how to play with him in our team......He is a penalty box striker (think Lineker) and we tried to turn him into a target man and make him "contribute". A sad waste of £10m plus by incompetent buffoons.
hogesar 9,503 Posted April 30, 2017 Sadly the most incompetent individual out of the RVW saga was Ricky himself.
Hoola Han Solo 448 Posted April 30, 2017 I''ve never known the fascination with discussing or pining over previous players (unless absolute legends like Grant Holt etc). RvW was terrible for us, and is now doing alright in a second rate European league. Fair play to the lad, but has no connotations for Norwich City going forward. Hucks6 169 Posted April 30, 2017 Chris Houghton didn''t use him properly two wingers getting ball in box was his strengths best of luck to the lad
lake district canary 4,520 Posted April 30, 2017
Chris Houghton didn''t use him properly two wingers getting ball in box was his strengths best of luck to the lad
We had wingers - they just seemed incapable of playing the kind of balls RVW needed! You can blame Hughton up to a point, but he often used to say we didn''t mix it up enough - and if the players he put out there didn''t have the sense to play the early ball sometimes, then that is not his fault. Hoola Han Solo 448 Posted April 30, 2017 One of them wingers, Snodgrass, was a considerably better player for Norwich City than RvW ever was. Redmond too. Complete and utter failure and only himself to blame, just not good enough.

Move Klose 303 Posted May 1, 2017 Hughton knew he was going one up top. Was clearly not a striker who could play up top on his own in the world''s toughest league in a side that was going to be fighting relegation same applies to Hooper that season. Lazio supposedly interested in rvw.

To often played as inverted wingers and both liked cutting in and shooting rather than crossing.
Rogue Baboon 0 Posted May 1, 2017 A penalty box striker. You want him to stay within the confines of the box, get the balls in so he can finish. He was never going to link play up or outmuscle defenders.Look at the players that thrive in the league (Zlatan, Aguero, Costa etc) and the roles they play for their teams. Then look at the forwards that have failed (Soldado, Negredo, Llorente) and how they want to play. You could even add Sturridge to that list as well - he simply doesn''t fit in with how Liverpool want to play
Lessingham Canary 99 Posted May 1, 2017 RVW would do well in the Scottish league, with a Rangers or Aberdeen, that would be a good level for him.

GJL Mid-Norfolk Canary 1,655 Posted May 1, 2017 When considering the ''strength'' of the eredivise it should also be noted that vitesse on loan Chelsea u23 player Lewis baker has also scored 15 goals from midfield this season
Fromage Frais 10 Posted May 1, 2017 I would put money on Cameron Jerome getting 30 goals a season in that league.RVW nice guy but totally unsuited to the game here and the role we had for him.Teams these days press and defend from the front so a "fox in the box" is rare especially when in the Premier league we are a smaller team with one up front.I struggle to remember a player with such a combination of weakness, lack of pace or aggression. he must be made of 95% confidence
Fromage Frais 10 Posted May 1, 2017

like Hooper was
Hopper had some ability to shield the ball and a nice powerful strike on him.You thought when you saw him that he would score goals if he had the opportunity.IF being the word as his lack of physical attributes reduced those chances when playing in the Premier league.Ergo he is at the right level now it seems

The Great Mass Debater 1,071 Posted May 8, 2017 Sorry, didnt realise a link had been posted already. Was looking for a Vitesse compilation to see what kind of goals he was scoring. My impression of the youtube Sporting goals were that many were penalties, and that the goalkeepers werent up to much cop. Was wondering if the same was true still seeing as he now has 20-odd this season
