lake district canary 4,515 Posted May 21, 2017 When Lambert was at Norwich, it was always "give it a good go and if you can''t win, make sure you get something out of the game". Hughton addressed it by organising the players to try and make us hard to beat in the first place and then try and nick a goal here and there.Adams went the positive route - and that didn''t really work after a while.Neil got it right for the rest of that season then didn''t maintain whatever it was he was doing right, in the PL. Then he went all positive again this season - and that didn''t work.Irvine got the balance largely right. So what should the mentality be going forwards? To be defensively strong with potent attackers getting the odd goal to win games? Or have an attacking mentality that makes us entertaining but prone to the odd setback? Or maybe something different - like posession football a la Swansea (and like we were under Stringer) limiting the opposition''s time on the ball in the process?Whatever the approach, it needs to work. A disciplined no nonsense approach would be good imo, such as Neil had to start with, before he succumbed to his inexperience. So maybe someone with a combination of Lambert''s competetiveness, Hughton''s organisation, Adam''s positivity, Neil''s initial steely approach and Irvine''s balanced football. Right, any Mr. Perfects out there?
OldRobert 38 Posted May 21, 2017 No 1 has to be the capability to make us defensively sound. Obvious I know, but no successful team has leaked goals like we do. This has to be the priority.
Greavsy 2,398 Posted May 21, 2017 Yes, agreed we have let far too many in, and our goals against confirms that, however it''s a balance, and we have scored the equal highest number of league goals too.I don''t think it''s a couple of big wins have skewed the figures, as we have had a couple of heavy defeats too.And as Huddersfield have shown, you can make the playoffs with a negative goal difference. Mr Angry 1,511 Posted May 21, 2017 We finished 3rd in the Premiership with a negative goal difference!
FCC 74 Posted May 21, 2017 I want pace when we attack - get forward and shoot. Not possession for possessions sake, giving sides time to get back and organise.Organised at the back, aggressive in the tackle, and quick and direct with the ball. A big, rough, talismanic, no. 9 would be very welcome.

nu_matik 167 Posted May 22, 2017 Tactical nous with a focus on defensive play. We have midfield and attack options most teams at this level will be very jealous of.
