Linked with marley Watkins

Recommended Posts

Is it not true that clubs can talk to, and subsequently sign pre-contract deals with, other clubs if within the last 6 months of their current contract?

Anyway, today''s stories would back up what we were thinking, along the lines of proven Championship performer Watkins IN and a selection of Wildschut, Naismith, Jarvis OUT. Prudent pruning.

If believe contracts work like this...

You can talk to a club in another country with 6 months or less left on your contract and sign a pre-contract. You can''t officially talk to clubs in the same country until you have 1 month left.

So if Rangers or Celtic wanted Watkins they could officially offer him a contract now but we''d have to wait until June.

Glad to see the reshuffle gathers pace.

We will lose some prefer to keep names too; but will be for the greater good.

Plenty of reasons to be cheerful

Yes this is my understanding too. Didn''t realise the 1 month thing for domestic players but makes sense.

i think he wiull sign but nothing concrete as his contract still not finished his Agent will still be working away now he has joined the wales squad it could heighten interest

i will give you a example about how nothing is certain until ink is dry

Mitchell dijks i PM''ed people at the time of this

LB from Ajax

fee agreed / wages done / went to Carrow road to see ground stood on pitch etc everything done ready to sign

10 mins later deal off he changed his mind !

later that day we rescued the deal by talking him into a loan deal he was ready to sign for the club full time and in 10 mins changed his mind that''s how close deals are sometimes

Contract pre-agreedments for player within England (and Wales) can only be signed a month before the end of the contract. It is to stop situations where a player has already agreed to join a club potentially playing against them in a competitive game.

Players from outside of England (and Wales) can be signed on a pre-agreement up to 6 months before the end of the contract.

Clubs will obviously speak to agents before the month deadline and agree deals in principle, but the player cannot signed on the dotted line until that date. Often with these pre-agreements either party may have to make a penalty payment should they back out of the deal.
