Diane Abbott
I want to echo Badger''s comments Nutty. I''m a lifelong Labour supporter, but I had fallen into the trap like many of lazy thinking about her. That blog was a timely reminder to look past the easy judgement, genuinely moving. Even if you don''t agree with Abbott''s, or Jack Monroe''s, political views, you can''t argue that what she has achieved could only be done by someone intelligent, committed and hard-working. When you add in that she was one of, if not the first black woman to do so, it just exposes the haters as small minded and jealous at best, racist at worst.
I agree buddy. It woke me up. A dose of reality that won''t be as popular as the easy slurs that get all the social media hits.

I am ITK about Ms. Abbott.

Many years ago, my mum asked me if I had heard of someone called Diane Abbott. I hadn''t. My mum worked for the civil service in Harlow, where they used to send HO memos for typing up.

I asked why? She said she''d been getting work from the Home office about Ugandan Asian refugees (for whom she felt a great degree of sympathy) from this Diane Abbott with really nasty racist comments added by her in the margins.

I''m not sure why Abbott should have been involved in this incident, since the Ugandan Asians arrived in 1972 & she wasn''t in the Home Office until 1976; nevertheless I can''t imagine why my mum should have made something up about an obscure Home Office junior that neither of us had heard of before. It was the first & last time she said anything of that nature to me.

She does come across as not liking white people in terms of authority with her comments about people from the colonies knowing they will face the army and victory against Britain being victory for us all.

My concern about her is her incompetence as a potential Home Secretary. She made a total Ed Balls of the cost of additional police numbers but then compounded this by claiming to have read a report about security yet was unable to answer any questions about it. These issues were part of her brief as shadow HS but eps he hadn''t a clue. No wonder Corbyn decided she should go ''sick'' and not be seen in the final days of the campaign.

“He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.”

There are plenty of Tory gaffes too:

It goes back to Mr Krukowski''s post earlier - some people don''t like the fact that she''s successful, female and black.

why the pic and the IRA comment?

It''s because when Diane Abbott was asked about supporting the IRA. she tried to distance herself from claims she supported the IRA by suggesting both her hairstyles and views have changed !

But now our government will be beholden when voting on the Queen''s Speech, to a party that supported their own violence.

If we are to move forward, we have to forget issues, however painful to members of the public, and move towards peace.

Mentioning the IRA, Hamas every time Abbot or Corbyn are mentioned stirs up hatred which is not what we want.

We trade with Germany and Japan whose recent past killed and mistreated far more UK citizens than the IRA.

But we cannot continue hatred for past events.

Hear, hear!

“I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left.” Thatcher, of all people.

Or could it be that she is not competent enough to hold one of the four great offices of state?

As for the statement that she is reelected time after time by her constituents this is true. However, you could put a red rosette on a donkey in Hackney and it would be elected. This would also be true if a blue rosette was applied in some Conservative constituencies. Mind you it would probably have to be a thoroughbred rather than a donkey.

Oh, well done. Shall I start listing constituencies that prove my point? No, I can''t be arsed. Given that there are only two non-Conservative constituencies in Norwich and Norfolk I am surprised at the overwhelming left wing colour of this forum.

Crafty: ". Given that there are only two non-Conservative constituencies in Norwich and Norfolk I am surprised at the overwhelming left wing colour of this forum."

The traditional complaint of the Tories. " Typical lefty BBC audience" when the leaders'' debate or Question Time audiences go against them. Sometimes you just have to acknowledge that your views are not those of the majority (or the majority of those who care enough to voice their opinion). All I see people saying on here is that we should look past the simplistic tabloid caricature of Diane Abbott.

in Hackney North and you''d get the same result

The place is a time bomb

Oh, I see. There was me thinking more people voted for the Conservatives than did for Labour. Perhaps the fact that the Right wing cranks had more MPs elected than Labour, the SNP, the Lib Dems and the Green Party together is a figment of my imagination.

It would also appear that the majority of Norfolk folk are also right wing cranks given the votes cast.

If you are going to comment at least try to make it rational.

Being irrational and unbalanced is denying the fact that individuals on this forum have multiple accounts.....OK?

Diane Abbot is not front bench material. As a like minded socialist, I have to admit square pegs and round holes.

But will some of you stupid fools stop attacking someone who has more goodness and community spirit than you could even conceive of.

You need to realise that caring for the majority instead of oneself is not weakness but goodness.

This has nothing to do with how much goodness or community spirit the adulteress hypocrite has, it is to do with her unsuitability for front bench politics. Excusing incompetence by excusing it because she is a nice person, something the first Mrs Corbyn might dispute, is the same as the case made for Russ Martin being a first choice CB.

What didn''t you understand about my first sentence? Are you too busy typing stupid and uncalled for bile about the lady to read things properly?
