Delia Smith honoured by the Queen

Recommended Posts

Bagged herself an Order of the Companion of Honour. A limited and elite list of fellow recipients include Stephen Hawking and David Attenborough.

Ok so Tebbit and Heseltine are on the list too but...

A deserved nod of recognition to the lady that saved our wonderful football club.

Congratulations Delia, we''re all very proud of you and your achievements.

"Delia has been a supporter of Norwich City Football Club since 1969 ..."eh ?

Founded by George V in 1917 the CH is awarded to those who have made a major contribution in the arts, science, medicine and government over a long period of time.

Presumably being a cook is regarded as part of the arts but this does seem to be an odd choice given the contributions of the other 64 members of the order. A dame hood might have been a more suitable gong in this case.

honoured by the queen? I think you''ll find that Delia is the queen!

I still have a mental (correct choice of words) image of Queen Delia (the first) having Paul Lambert brought before her following the loss to Colchester..

"..for your impertinence - you shall manage my team and if it is not a success then I shall banish you to Aston Villa"

"now will no one rid me of this turbulent Mary Berry?"
"Delia has been a supporter of Norwich City Football Club since 1969 ..."eh ?
Probably around then. She was a Leeds United fan, growing up, and it was Michael Wynn Jones who turned her on (as we said in the Sixties...)  to Norwich City.

Many have been saying she was a p*** artist over a long period of time. [:D]

"Long overdue.

Me (myself end I) hev enjoyed a slice of the delicious sponge cek, prepared to Delia''s own recipe, with our afternoon cuppa P.G. Tips for number of years now.

My husband (end I) particularly enjoy the liberal lashings of cooking sherry that the recipe demands."

Hic!

Why try and belittle her recognition?

Probably for the same reason Tories don''t stick their heads above the parapet.

Guilt, shame and embarrassment.

We love you Delia.👏👏👏👏

Belittle? Belittle?

The fact that Delia enjoys a tipple is a plus point as far as I am concerned.

As for your obscure political reference, there''s already a long-running thread for that sort of remark.

I like Delia. I fall short of actual "love" though.

Typical of the lefties to use Delia''s award to bash the Tories. Personally, as Conservative supporter I feel no guilt, shame or embarrassment.

It''s not that CC, but more the propensity for making unfounded and inaccurate assumptions then hurling insults on the basis of those assumptions.

Thoroughly immature.

I worked at Debrett''s a lifetime ago and know there are only 65 members of this order at any one time and that Delia, looking at the current list, is in some very illustrious company.

Congratulation Delia - well deserved!

What? No snarky comment Fuzzar? ;-)

I''m no fan of the honours system but like you I''m happy to hear of something that I''m sure means a lot to our club joint owner. is it too much to ask just to leave it at that?

I see there are still people peddling the myth that Delia saved the club.

If Delia can get an honour for 4 relegations and 0 cups, what posthumous honour should Geoffrey Watling get for 0 relegations and actually saving the club twice?

The honours system has more to do with very rich and famous people honouring very rich and famous people than being based on merit alone. Look at all that money the Duchess of Lancaster gets from her duchy, not to mention all that dough stashed up in the royal trusts.

So Big Vince, leaving personal views on the 1st lady of Norwich City, do you think it is actually a bad thing for our club that we are linked to someone who has achieved this recognition?.

Personally i can only see good from it, so why use it as a stick?

Love Delia. I remember in my first year as a season ticket holder when I was 8 years old in 2000 for some reason that escapes me now she was pitch side meeting fans in the stand, she was lovely. I get why our managers and staff often get enamoured with her, she has such a disarming and friendly vibe.

Met her again about 3 years ago and she was exactly the same.

To this day i find it frustrating that she won''t even listen to enquiries about a potential takeover but it still fills me with pride knowing we''re owned by some of the most revered (and rightly so) people in English football. I''m not going to let one stubborn flaw impact my opinion of such a brilliant lady.

It''s also frustrating as hell that we''ve struggled to compete in the PL whenever we get there but it''s completely inarguable that they''ve managed the club well beyond their relatively meagre means. Without PP we''d have something like the 3/4/5th smallest budget in this division.

Always happy to see her get some recognition!

Managed the club well?

I dont think the signing of the following indicate that:

Jarvis

Voo

Lafferty

Andreau

McGovern

Windschut

Naismith - paid too much

Wolfswinkel

No we wouldnt I would have thought that the following clubs would have smaller budgets than us:

Burton Albion

Ipswich Town

Barnsley

PNE

Brentford

Possibly Cardiff

Sheffield United

Bolton

Millwall

Congrats to Delia.

Personally I want a new owner with fresh ideas & maybe more backing to help us successful reach our potential.

Nothing against Delia, I just don''t think after four out of six years in the top flight & all the money that brings, we are in a place that we are.... ie selling our best players & preparing for a lack of premiership funding.

Her interview in the Times was the last straw for me & our club being passed to a 35 year old ex civil servant with no experience after she leaves does not bode well. I would have preferred her to look at ALL investment opportunities which clearly she has not.

Anyway, as I said congrats to Delia.

It is completely irrelevant. Has no impact on the fortunes of Norwich City either way. If it meant that £50 million was going to drop out of the sky and fall on Carrow Road it might be different. But then would you trust Delia and Wynnie to use it wisely?

Civil servants are amongst the worst people to be put in charge of anything. Probably only a solicitor (Doomcaster) could do worse.

Given that the boy Tom left the MoD with a £35bn black hole our prospects under him are bleak, more so as he has no wealth of his own. Civil servants specialise in wasting other people''s money (the poor old taxpayer).

I wish I''d known that when I went for my CS interview, I told them I specialised in writing COBOL.
Who do you think really runs the country. It''s the civil service of course.
Perhaps they should therefore dip into their own pockets to pay back the £1.7tn National Debt then.
