......and Smith must score.

Restructuring : The end of the week looms large....

Recommended Posts

The club is a business with millions of pounds in assets, both structural and personnel related.

Businesses do not conduct all their dealings in the public domain for obvious reasons, not least because of the amount of competing businesses and the sensitivity and financial impact of decisions.

We are fans, which equates most closely in business terms to paying customers.

As customers we don''t get to know about internal company meetings and decisions, we just get the end story in the form of an announcement.

Why as fans should we expect anything different?

That said, managing expectations is what the club should be doing better. It wouldn''t hurt for someone today to say they are taking longer than planned to finalise the details because it''s more important to get this right than it is to hit a self imposed deadline.

In reality the season is over for us whatever the dewy eyed optimists believe, so whether it''s another week or another month is hardly important.

Indeed.

Has the future been written yet?  What if the absence of Neil allows the players to express themselves better? What if  Irvine has a better approach?  What if any new manager inspires the players to play to their capabilities and they find their confidence?  What if Sheff Wed/Fulham/Preston lose two or three matches more than us? The future is not pre-ordained and nothing is over until it''s over.  If (and I agree it''s a big if) Fulham/Preston  draw or lose today and we win, we would be five pints off sixth place and in that situation I defy anyone to say the season is finished. It''s not over until it''s over.

Wednesday are faltering, as inevitably one or two of the top six would, it''s a shame we have been unable to take advantage

All we have to do is get into the mix running into the last couple of games of the season and then see what happens.  Even on the last day of the season, even if we are two pints off sixth, there are key matches - Sheff wed v Fulham for instance and Preston are away to Wolves.  We are at least at home and could bounce above them. If things go well today and we end up five points behind  sixth place we are one win away from being in touch of sixth place. It''s still all to play for imo. [Y]

I take it you have examined our track record going back over the years in the last game of the season Lakey ?
Yet again, and as always, we have shown ourselves to be the champion ditherers. If points were awarded for dithering, we would be top of the league. The board dithered for four months whilst AN did his dead man walking act. Now they are dithering again as other clubs act decisively by appointing new managers, leaving us dithering behind. Who would expect any manager worth his salt to be keen to go to a club run by weak, indecisive ditherers?
You could equally, in fact, more credibly, say why would any manager go to a club where previous managers are sacked frequently after a few bad results? Surely they are more likely to go to a club with a relatively patient board where they will be given time and stability?

Of course, conversely, we are not mathematically safe from relegation yet.

In the recent circumstances at our Club, I would be interested to hear your definition of "a few bad results". The same comment applies to "stability".
