Worrying times indeed because........

Recommended Posts

.......we have a horrendous record of turning Managers/Players that have ''cut the mustard'' elsewhere into absolute disasters.E.g:

Hughton, Neil, Naismith,Martin (Chris),Van Wolfs - Wildschut looks to be going the same way.

Many of these have reverted back to their previous success when moving on!

Redmond was not guaranteed a place in our struggling/ average Champ team. Now England candidate and performing well in decent Prem side. Lafferty near prolific for Ireland. Jamie Cureton could score for fun for around 15 sides (except of course Norwich).

Even Harry Kane and Peter Crouch looked average with our outfit!

We are now drinking in the last chance saloon and with the cost of establishing our mini Committee + recruiting players with sufficient quality, failure now (+ cost of disestablishment)would mean even our much heralded solvency would no longer exist.

It is vital therefore that Steve Webber does not become another victim!

Perhaps before appointing our new Coach a visit from The Exorcist might be advisable!
Peter Crouch and Chris Martin were good when they were here.
But not scoring (or ever looked like he might) 25 goals a season as CM has subsequently done! If so good why did we give him away?

Harry Kane? He was 19 years old, he only played three times for us due to injury, playing a total of 135 minutes, and then he was recalled by Spurs. He was still developing when we had him, he hadn''t "cut the mustard" anywhere before so I''m not sure that he is a good example of this "Bermuda Triangle" of disappearing talent that you are trying to invent.

I  believe in what one prominent closet NCFC supporter (Theresa May - who knew?!) has just said:Easter, with its fixture pile-up, is a moment to reflect and an important time for Norwich City fans to gather together with families and friends in the Nelson bar, The Compleat Angler and that tapas place just off La Rambla where those sad Remain exiles hang out. This season, after a period of intense debate over the right future for our club, there is a sense that fans are coming together and uniting behind the opportunities that lie ahead. For at heart, this club is one great union of people (apart from Neil and Moxey and now all those Stuart Webber has just sacked, of course) with a proud history (apart from the last 30 years in any cup competition...) and a bright future (providing no-one looks too closely at the accounts). And as we face the opportunities ahead of us – the opportunities such as fixture agsinst Burton Abion and perhaps even Fleetwood Town that stem from our courageous decision to get relegated from the Premier League and embrace the Championship – our shared interests (although perhaps the Barclay could refrain from booing new signings before they have even kicked a ball for us), our shared ambition (apart from that one about bankrupting the club by spending money on extra capacity that will never get used) and above all our shared footballing values (pretty-passing defeats good, winning hoofball bad) can, and must, bring us together.

With I suspect a cheap, lower league ''manager'' with no track record of promotion to the chumps, parachute payments dwindling to nothing, it will be a considerable achievement simply to avoid relegation next season. Then there is the task of realising the disposal of any remaining playing assets of value and the dismantling of the academy as we chart the board''s apparent course towards the football league wilderness. You couldn''t make it up.

Guys

Was Chris Hughton successful with us. Is he now?

Did Jamie Cureton score goals for us (in two spells)? Did he at just about every other Club?

Was Chris Martin a 25 goals a season striker with us? Is he now?

Did Lafferty score goals at Int level.

Did RVW score goals for fun pre Norwich? Is he again now?

Did Redmond perform to his ability with us. Is he about to win a few England caps

Before you tell me that Chris Martin had an attitude problem, if that was our ''red line'' most of the current shower would be gone!

Stick to the facts Guys (rather than the abuse thatmaybe you are better at). They tend to speak for themselves!

You''re right to a certain extent Derby but this applies to all leading clubs.

Manchester United specialise in turning good (and expensive) players into flops and then they move on to becoming successful again.

I would''t single out City the way you have.

It works both ways. Think of the players who have come here (eg. Holty, RM. JR etc) who were having average careers at lower league clubs and ended up as PL players at NCFC.

It''s football.

Was Chris Hughton successful with us. Is he now? Yes and no and yes. 1st season he kept us up which helped clear our debts.Second seaon not good. Did Jamie Cureton score goals for us (in two spells)? Did he at just about every other Club?

Yes and no.Was Chris Martin a 25 goals a season striker with us? Is he now? No, but he got 23 for us in L1. No he hasn''t scored 25 for 2 seasons. Did Lafferty score goals at Int level. Yes. Against San Marino and the Faroes. Did RVW score goals for fun pre Norwich? Is he again now?

Yes and yes, but after two other bad stints after us.Did Redmond perform to his ability with us. Is he about to win a few England caps. Yes and no and yes. Before you tell me that Chris Martin had an attitude problem, if that was our ''red line'' most of the current shower would be gone!

I was trying to recall name of the biggest Man U. failure.

Remembered now, Diego Forlan.

Complete flop in Manchester then went on to be prolific everywhere else including 74 in 134 at Athletico Madrid.
Guys

Was Chris Hughton successful with us. Is he now? He was in his first season, guiding us to our highest finish since 1993. He then had a poor second season, as he did with Birmingham and Newcastle. It seems as if he has learnt from his experiences and is having sustained success with Brighton. Good on him.

Did Jamie Cureton score goals for us (in two spells)? Did he at just about every other Club? Yep - although he was never particularly prolific at the level he represented Norwich at... except for his season in League One. In his career he had one season where he scored a lot of goals in the Championship (at Colchester). Otherwise, most of his goals came at lower-league level. Was Chris Martin a 25 goals a season striker with us? Is he now? He has scored 25 goals in a season once. At Norwich he scored 23 goals in a season (admittedly in League One). He has definitely improved as a player since he left Norwich, granted.Did Lafferty score goals at Int level. Yep. In a team that was playing him as a lone striker and constantly trying to feed him chances. He has scored 20 goals in 58 caps - good but not brilliant - and most of those goals were against poor teams. He has never scored more than 11 league goals in a season. He''s a poor striker.Did RVW score goals for fun pre Norwich? Is he again now? RVW was an unmitigated disaster, I think we all accept that.Did Redmond perform to his ability with us. Is he about to win a few England caps? He was (and still is) a young player learning his trade. He had an awful lot of expectation placed upon him in a largely poor team, and now he has moved on to a better club surrounded by better players, he has clearly gone up a level. It happens a lot.

Before you tell me that Chris Martin had an attitude problem, if that was our ''red line'' most of the current shower would be gone!

And many of them will be gone come the summer. We all know that a clearout is required, Stuart Webber most of all.Stick to the facts Guys (rather than the abuse thatmaybe you are better at). They tend to speak for themselves! No abuse there, just statistics backed up with opinions. Surely you can see that ''facts'' can be spun to suit an agenda - maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle ground?
Worrying times? On the contrary, we are at last embarked on the regeneration of the club that should have been started at the end of the 2013-2014 season. Far from being consumed with worry, we''ve every reason to feel positive and look forward with relish to the forthcoming rebuild. It''s the ill-wishers on here who have real cause to worry and the appearance of all these daft threads tells me that the usual suspects like Derby and Highland know it all too well.

Where does this Club keep finding these Lemmings that keep believing that every change at the top is the start of the long awaited Renaissance. Reality is that the costs involved with this could finish the Club!

I think that is correct WCC. We have had two poor seasons, particularly this one, and apart from those who continue to believe it all the board''s fault, then there is every reason to feel positive. I eagerly anticipate our new first team coach.

Some would like a return to the days when we promoted from within but in all honesty who would that be.

Others want us to look abroad for the new Wagner.

I want who our new sports director thinks is right for the job. We have to trust him.

Most of Lambert''s team were or have been better here than at any other club.

Redmond is playing in a vastly better team. Southampton wasn''t just a little step up for him, these days it was huge! The difference between our team and scum''s several times over. He''s more of a technical, thinking inside forward than an out and out winger so having smarter, faster, better players around him was always going to bring his game up a level. And you also have the difference between Puel/Neil, their facilities/coaches and ours etc It''s not some magical curse.

Some other names i''ll pick out:

Naismith -A bit part, over rated player at Everton, wasn''t worth 7m to begin with, he wasn''t that good while at Everton. They rated him like how we rated Elliot Bennett or Simon Lappin, more about his character than ability.

Kane and Crouch were both very young players. Crouchy did okay iirc and Kane was 19 playing up top by himself in the Pl in a Hughton team...Ibrahimovic would struggle! (Well, actually no he wouldn''t but it''s still unfair to judge Kane from that)

etc etc I can think of plenty of other excuses. It''s more about us buying too many players recently past their peak, or just getting the wrong type of players completely. Like I said in the opening sentence, there''s more than a few examples at the other end of the scale. Grant holt being the most obvious

Do not get this thread at all, this is normal for all clubs - you sign somebody on the basis they''ve been good for their current club, some work out, some don''t. Would think we all get that...
