Syteanric 1 Posted September 26, 2005 well it takes guts to apologise so fair play tohim for doing that. i dont think its going to make any difference to be honest. The damage has already been done. and although he has apologised the fans might be thinking "does he mean it"? im sure its a genuine apology, it doesnt change my opinion of him. Â but 1 or 2 might think its forced or a wooden apology. Time will tell jas

Yellow Rider 0 Posted September 26, 2005 Good - I think he had to do that in order to restore some confidence.Everyone is entitled to apologise for what they may have done/ said and the incident should now be closed. However, it certainly hasn''t done Worthy''s credibility any good.Bring on Hull tomorrow and let''s try and kick start the season (again!)!I think the ''men in grey suits'' must have paid Worthy a visit over the weekend. BIC 0 Posted September 26, 2005 Worthy''s comments at least read as if they''re fairly genuine. They''ll definitely go some way towards repairing the damage he''s undoubtedly caused, but I think we might look back on this as the point when he really started to lose the fans'' backing.Personally, I''m still a Worthy supporter, but I''m finding it harder and harder to keep thinking that way. Meeky 0 Posted September 26, 2005
http://www.canaries.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/FirstNewsDetail/0,,10355~718771,00.html Good to see. I''m sure his comments were just said in the heat of the moment.
Well blow me down with a feather and slap me round the face with a haddock! So the spin doctors at the club have given Worthy a script to read out when interviewed by "First News". It had to happen, the whole web has been on meltdown since 5.30 on Saturday, they know he has upset the supporters and something had to be done. A load of old cobblers if you ask me, contrived and hastily rushed out. Worthy showed his true colours on Saturday.
Johnny Hill 0 Posted September 26, 2005 The apology has come too late for me. Even those of you who accept his apology, which most people actually believe was written for him, still have to remember the bizarre decisions he''s been making. He''ll be gone by the end of October and even that''s too late!!
gazzathegreat 0 Posted September 26, 2005 well well, how very big of him, and i also didn''t know he had a sideline as a spindoctor well worthy, if that was genuine and you really do value the opinions of the fans, try coming out with some rational explanations as to why we have only accumulated 9 points in 10 games not the usual stuff you trot out after every match about passing football, energy, chances blah blah yes you were frustrated, and believe me so am i however, i sense i will be watching norwich city play for rather longer than you will - a fact i comfort myself with at the moment

No Mad 0 Posted September 26, 2005 Fair play to him IMO.I was worried by his comments but if he was just saying that he makes the decisions about substitutions - OK.But given how things have gone so far I think he needs to be wary about alienating any more fans. Fact is, this is not a democracy where the fans vote for their favourite substitution. I''ve been at plenty of games where we''ve bood subs and then won the game, plenty of others where it hasn''t worked.Right after the game, in the heat of the moment, he said ''I make the decisions, I don''t care what the fans think''. If your Worthy glass is half full then that''s ''abusing the fans''. To me it sounds like strong leadership - He''s prepared to make the tough decisions, take the flak and get on with it.Yup, I thought it was the wrong sub too and he was obviously stung by the reaction. But he has a point - I suspect the fans'' booing was music to Coppell''s ears and marked the end of any hope we had of getting back into it. But you pay you''re money and you''re entitled to boo the players into losing if that''s your bag.

still holding out for new heroes 0 Posted September 26, 2005 too little, too late...I''d much rather had been given an explanation for the substitutions...something deep and sensible that only people with a UEFA coaching badge could see that we mortals couldn''t......another small protest idea...dont buy a programme...dont spend money in the bars...sing your heart out inside
Chris MacDonald 0 Posted September 26, 2005 Fair Pay to Worthy for apologising to the Fans but it would be nice to admit his mistakes for the substitutions made at the Reading game especially cocerning Dean Ashton''s injury because as nearly everyone knows a head injury can lead can lead to dire consequences. DumbleDelia is Magic 0 Posted September 26, 2005
Any chance of a "copy and paste" job? Some of us don''t own credit cards.
WORTHY ON POST-MATCH COMMENTS CITY boss Nigel Worthington spoke to First News today about remarks made to BBC Radio Norfolk following the match against Reading at Carrow Road. Some supporters have expressed concern over one comment in which Worthington said he ''didn''t care'' what supporters thought following his decision to substitute Paul McVeigh in the second half of Saturday''s 1-0 defeat by the Royals. But speaking exclusively to First News, the Canaries boss today expressed regret for any upset caused by the comment. He commented: "If my remarks have caused offence to any of our supporters then I apologise wholeheartedly."I was being interviewed not long after the game had ended. Saturday was frustrating for all concerned and nobody''s more frustrated than myself, the coaching staff and the players."Everybody has their own opinions and of course they are entitled to them. What I was trying to say and indeed did say in the main press conference minutes later is that we understand the fans'' frustrations and we share them - but that at the end of the day myself and the coaching staff have the responsibility to make decisions about things like tactics and substitutions."Our supporters are magnificent and it''s important we all stick together now as we have done so well and so positively for the last five years. I hope they will once again give their tremendous support to the players on Tuesday night when we play Hull."

Some supporters have...
I think he was forced to issue the apology.Even then he NEVER admits that in hindsight he may have made a mistake. He tries to justify his words (which were totally out of order)To me it reads "Im sorry if I offended anyone but I stick by what I said"Instead of "im sorry if I offended anyone, what I said was totally out of order"I am reading more and more "insiders" who say Worthy has lost the dressing room. Its easy to dismiss this kind of stuff but often there is no smoke without fire. a1canary 0 Posted September 26, 2005 hang on USA - don''t stir that one up. there is NO evidence he has lost the dressing room. i haven''t known a manager here who has more support from the players than worthy. they celebrate with him when they score, they talk highly of him, they even talk like him (over use of the word "pleasing" for example!).one of the most valid reasons for sacking a manager is if he has lost the dressing room but i don''t think this is the case at all. USAcanary 0 Posted September 26, 2005 Here is an update.I just viewed a video on the canaries world website where they interviewed Worthy about his post match comments. Not once did he apologize for his remarks. It seems like the whole website thing was ideed scripted for him.He had a chance in the interview to set the record stright but didn`t.Those are the facts. a1canary 0 Posted September 29, 2005 so worthy''s lost the dressing room has he? i will reiterate again, since it was highlighted by Safri''s celebrations against Hull and Ashton''s comments today - there is NO evidence to suggest the manager has lost the dressing room and to suggest so is fabrication and mischieve making of the worst tabloid kind.i''ve ignored this whole debate over his comments after the reading game because it''s so ridiculous but it has irritated me enough to wade in...thing is, i wouldn''t really care what the fans thought about my substitutions if i was manager. you have to have the confidence to make the decisions as manager and he does. yes it''s arrogant, so is morinho, so is ferguson, so is wenger. worthy out becuase he''s arrogant? give me a break! do you think fergie gives two s**ts what the fans thought of his substitutions against blackburn? the fans can boo if they must, as fergie was reminded, but they make the decisions and they stand or fall by them depending on the result. ok, we lost and people had a go at worthy for taking off mcveigh, and maybe even, if he''d have had his time again, he might have left him on becasue hindsight is a wonderful thing! but it''s no reason to sack him and it''s every reason when wound up after a bad result to tell the massed ranks of fans totally devoid of memories or formal football management experience to get lost!! he is passionate and he cares about the club. so do i and i would have said a lot worse in the heat of the moment!
