morty 0 Posted February 8, 2017 Found this picture of what Carrow Road looked like in 92-93 season. Quite pleased with it as was talking to someone about the fact that I couldn''t remember what the area looked like pre Riverside! No snake pit, no hotel, no Koblenz avenue! And for reference, for folks who don''t get there much, heres what it looks like now[;)]

morty 0 Posted February 9, 2017 This beauty just turned up, can''t believe how grim the whole riverside area used to be! Its somewhere between 85 and 92.
Greavsy 2,398 Posted February 9, 2017 It was an industrial area, being near the river and all that.
Hoola Han Solo 448 Posted February 9, 2017 Wow,great pictures.Being the right side of 35, I''ve got very little memory of pre-Riverside.However, I can remember during the mid 90s that whenever we would take s family trip to Norwich, we would park at the park and ride, which was basically on a piece of industrial wasteland where the Riverside complex now is. During the regeneration, one of the ground''s car parks (next to the river) was a temporary park and ride while Postwick park and ride was being completed.Even as a 10 or 11 year old I can remember Riversie being a major thing for the City, and it definitely improved the area. Very hard to imagine it before. I think Morrisons and the retail park opened around 2000, including Big W (anyone remember that?).It''s fascinating to see that nearly everything around the Carra has completely changed yet it''s been there through all of it. What it has done of course is connect the football stadium to the city visually and practically - it used to be hidden away behind dilapidated warehouses and brick walls - and a not very nice walk from the station. The city planners done good....for once.....

morty 0 Posted February 9, 2017 The South stand hadn''t actually changed that much when I first went in the early 90''s.
Greavsy 2,398 Posted February 9, 2017 Any idea when the seats went in?I recall the south stand, and main stand were seated, whilst the Barclay and River end terracing, before the new current stands built.
sonyc 5,447 Posted February 9, 2017 This brings back memories. I used to love the walk up the river and the sight of the old flourmills. And the crowds getting bigger as you got closer and the anticipation growing. Somehow when I (rarely get a chance) to go now, the area is somehow corporate and has that modern steel and glass emptiness you get around office blocks. Not a fan of the Riverside developments have to admit. But realise it is a form of progress. Also recall getting the real Pinkun outside just 10 minutes after the game which I always felt was a marvel! It used to have the scores at least of all games but a report til about half time!Happy days. Never mind. Bring on the Chinese or Russian takeover 😏
TCCANARY 263 Posted February 9, 2017 I started going in the early 1970''s. I remember we used to have to decide whether to pay a shilling to transfer from the Riverend to the South Stand when it rained. There''s no fence on the earlier picture between the two stands, I wonder when that money making scheme was introduced?
TIL 1010 4,656 Posted February 9, 2017
The South stand hadn''t actually changed that much when I first went in the early 90''s.
Except that seats were installed over ten years earlier.
Greavsy 2,398 Posted February 9, 2017 That was the point I was trying to subtly raise. Altho the comment was, generally the same.
