Howson's Volley

Recommended Posts

At the game, I thought Howson''s was the runaway winner, but after watching replays, the Hoolahan goal was bloody marvellous as well. What a game to be at, without those 2 goals, we would be raving about the other 3!

Now I''ve had time to mull Ito we I think itsthe greatestvolley I''ve ever seen at Carrow road

For it to have dropped from that high and him control the movement like that, incredible

I''ve just seen SSN showing Howson''s volley alongside Schole''s vs Villa, and the big standout for me, was that Scholes had one foot on the floor when he hit his, and Howson didn''t, making JH''s far more difficult.

Splitting hairs comparing Goss''s as well, and the angles of the balls approaching each player, again makes Johnny''s the better of the two, imo.

Just glad to say that ''I was there'' to see it, and hear the crowd react, a special moment

"lincoln canary (& Golden Coppel)"Russ martins against Huddersfield, I think.

But none have the technique of Howsons. It''s one thing catching a ba right, but what Howson does is unreal. The height, the dip, being off the ground... this goal is probably the greatest goal ever scored at carrow road

Do you mean the one against Brighton? Awesome goal.

I genuinely don''t understand why we''re not inundated with bids every window for Howson. He''s been our best player for a good couple of years now, he can cover anywhere across midfield more than competently, doesn''t get injured much anymore, scores goals, makes vital blocks etc Has scored screamers at PL level and looked completely comfortable at that level before. He''d also improve any dressing room with his attitude and professionalism.

Don''t get me wrong, I''m thrilled that we''ve hung onto him for so long but he could start in CM for a southampton/everton and would improve any lower half PL team. He seems to improve steadily every year as well and no longer seems to have those anonymous games that he would occasionally churn out earlier in his career.

Oh well, let''s just hope he carries on going under the radar!

I think we benefit from Howson and probably the entire team being quite inconsistent in the prem. Howson would always have a good game then anonymous for the next couple.

And I''m not complaining, if he regularly played well in the prem we obviously wouldn''t have him.

An absolutely sensational goal.  Words don''t do it justice.  It had everything.  Many, many congratulations Jonny.[Y]

Just watched the re-run of the Championship highlights on channel 5.......and the presenters and pundits were absolutely drooling over "Hit it Howson''s" volley of the season......Me? I''m just so ecstatic that I was in attendance at Carra and privileged to see it ''for real''.......and Mr Hoolahoops was superb as well.....Great afternoon and great football.....and Pritch an'' Josh''s shouldn''t go without a mention.....marvellous......bloody marvellous! (Still nursin'' a hangover....but, well worth it).....

Standing there in block E it looked a great goal but after watching it about 20 times it just looks an out of this world finish i can''t honestly remember seeing a better goal anywhere ever the technique needed can''t be understated.

Yes this goal is trending everywhere and it eclipses all of the goals I''ve seen (in person and not in person) at Carrow Rd. This will be remembered for decades.

Now then a question....does Jonny Howson possess one of the hardest shots of any NCFC team over the years? He must be up there in the top 10? I recall Drinkell smashing the ball hard too.

No-one will ever come near to the ferocity with which Graham Paddon could strike a ball. He regularly used to hit them so hard from 30 yards that the goalie never saw them and they were still rising when they hit the net.

Barry B, yeah good call. I remember seeing him hit a 20 yarder in a 5-0 win ( was it Blackpool? Memory may be suspect).

I seem to remember there being a competiton in the early 90''s on Grandstand or Saint and Greavsie or the like when every top flight team put a player forward to compete in a "hardest shot" competition.......I feel fairly sure Rob Newman won it?!?

Apparently he came through the Leeds academy as a striker before being converted to a midfielder. Certainly explains why he has such sublime technique when he shoots.
