Realistic Jan defensive targets

Recommended Posts

In light of Moxeys comments, the board clearly feel the issue is more complex than getting rid of AN, which I am struggling to fathom.

Yet it would seem that the big earners of Klose Etc will move on. Our defensive frailties are there for all to see.

But who is realisitcally available as genuine defensive targets ? Struggling to see anyone in lower leagues worth a punt or prem league fringe defenders looking for a loan

You''re not thinking like Alex Neil........

We''re letting in lots of goals?

"We need to buy another striker / midfielder."

Agreed Tommo and anyone who does come here will be a worse player soon there after.

Klose needs to be brought back into the side ASAP. He is proven quality and will refund his form. Other than that, all our other central defenders are hopeless, but we are unlikely to get anything better.

Worrying days.

I know what was I thinking - let''s go 2-6-2 ! Very worrying times as looks like Klose will be moved on, clearly not a unified dressing room at the minute with big earners on the fringes who will simply not be quiet on the sidelines

There will be no early deals

Maybe last minute deals but in her real centre backs are at a premium at all levels

Don''t think we could have picked a worst time to shop for a centre back. Any of he kids good?

It would have to be Ricky Martins fine European scouting credentials to find a gem of a centre half or two in the loser echelons of French, Dutch leagues etc . Hope of this happening is about as much as Neil being sacked by end of Jan

Jonas Olsson from West Brom. Defender, leader and can head the bloody ball in the 6 yard box. Not sure why he is out of favour, injuries etc, but I would certainly be checking him out.
With 8 defeats in 10, we need to focus on here and now, we need to buy in better than we have.
Agree that we need two experienced centre backs perhaps Ambrose at Celtic ? Not sure about Olsson at West Brom but Craig Dawson may be used as part of the Klose deal?

Well Klose, our £8m international isn''t playing because of AN''s man management skills. Nor is Pritchard our£8m midfielder. Nor is Canos our highly rated £2.5m winger!

The players aren''t performing. Well AN picks them and it''s AN''s man management that week in week out they''re not responding to.

If our defense is so woeful, why hasn''t Turner had a look in?

Need to ship out Klose, Brady & Naismith, get some defenders in and start rebuilding and hope to god that AN actually plays them. Maybe a midfielder or two (& replace Tettey & Mulumbu-hey why not try Thompson & Maddison??))

Would be a disaster to lose the likes of Canos & Pritchard because they, like so many, have been frozen out due AN man management skills

Realistic defensive targets?

How about not conceding an average of two goals per game (rounded up)

If AN and his coaching team are still here, I really don''t think it matters who we sign.

They will be part of a tactically inept set up and have any quality beaten out of them pretty quickly.

If they dare to question (which I suspect Klose has) we will never see them again.

Reiterating "realistically", there are 15 league points to be had in January.

The longer the month goes on without any new signings, the chance lessens of getting 15 points.

Of course any new signing will have to go into the U23''s for 6 games to get to know our style and tactics and get as fit as the rest of his team mates.

Surely Jarvis must be fit enough now for starters?

From what we have seen so far this season, I don''t think it will take 6 games to get as fit as their team mates - 6 minutes on a rowing machine should do it.

Genuine question though. Do other clubs take so long to blood new talent, or are they simply thrown in at the deep end?

It is a fair point to raise, consider a few of these;

Dele Alli is 20 and has 157 1st team appearances.

Origi is 21 and has 152

Sterling is 22 has 198

Ward-Prosw is 22 has 150

John Stones is 22 has 144

Emre Can is 22 has 180

Lukaku is 23 has 296

Ross Barkley is 23 has 174.

Even Eriksen is still just 24, given he''s been around for years, has 314!

Declan Rudd is 25 has 101, with only 34 of those here.

Pritchard is 23 and had 103 before coming here.

Remi Matthews is 22 has 28, and this is the first year he''s got double figures in a season...

Thompson is 22 has 75.

Josh and Jacob are almost 22 have 89 and 87.

Morris is 21 has just 56.

Toffolo is 21 and has just 45.

McGrandles is 21 and has 88, 87 of those coming from Falkirk...

Maddison is 20 (so under 21 threshold) has just 61.

Canos is 19 (as above) has 44.

Godfrey is 18 and has 22.

It would suggest we certainly aren''t very good at getting our youngsters first team experience. In the last few years, certainly only Josh and Jacob have become close to first team regularity.

Of course, there is the possibility they just aren''t good enough...

On the other hand, it took about 6 months for AN to give Oliveira a game...
Klose out. Turner in.

Assume other outs: Brady, Josh, Jacob, Olsson

New contracts for Bassong, Bennett, Ruddy and Martin
Highland......sounds about right to me!
