What a crazy table. If we win our next game we could go to 6th but if we lose we could end up being in 21st position!

And that is precisely why this is one of the most exciting leagues in the world. Whereas in the predictable Premiership some bookies have already paid out on Chelsea winning, the Championship provides drama and excitment right up to the end of the season. The Premiership might be where the money is, but the Championship is where the excitment is

A genuine competitive league with every team starting the season knowing they have all to play for. Why do we have this in the Championship? Simply because very few teams have a sugar daddy and there is very little TV money (parachute payments aside) sloshing around. Teams get by on their fan base, gate receipts and merchandising and given that most teams have gates in the mid teens to low to mid twenty thousands we all have similar budgets. The end result competition and a decent product for the consumer. Championship average gates going up, Premiership gates going down.

If Mr Abramovich wishes to splash the cash in football he should go out and buy 12 to 16 of the top UK or even European clubs. Then he should buy in all the star players he desires, centrally contracting them to his new league. Set up a draft system to create genuine competetive teams. Football consumers  may actually be interested then, and I''m sure he''d make another fortune. Sadly if it keeps on like this the slow death of the game will continue and only the Championship can save us. I look forward to the day when the Championship TV rights are worth more than the Premierships!!!
