Syteanric 1 Posted December 31, 2016 Apart from the last 12 months of his ''reign'' the Chase era was better..5th, 4th and 3rd in the top flight, 2 FA cup semi finals and Europe....If Greed hadn''t got the better of him then who knows....
nutty nigel 7,509 Posted December 31, 2016 Actually that''s not quite true Jas. We had an EGM at st Andrews hall after he sacked Ken Brown. Then we had a sit down protest in the Barclay. Then we had some great seasons. Then disaster struck. But I just put my wireless on to watch the game and this was being said.
alex_ncfc 647 Posted December 31, 2016 Yes Nutty, really. Just because there aren''t police horses down Carrow Road doesn''t mean it isn''t as bad - it''s actually much worse, at least under Chase we had some success, all in a shorter time-frame too. What have we achieved with the cook at the helm other than now going back to square one? Never any desire or ambition to cement a position in the top league. Chase also wouldn''t have sat by and watched his manager lose 8 out of 10 games either...

Syteanric 1 Posted December 31, 2016 I didn''t. Thats why I asked!History is as cruel to Chase as it is kind to Delia.
Faded Jaded Semi Plastic SOB 1,017 Posted December 31, 2016 Hard one to judge as football has changed so much since those days, my concern regarding Delia and MWJ is not them, I think they have been good for the club, they just are not wealthy enough to take us to the next level........ nutty nigel 7,509 Posted December 31, 2016 It''s just history Jas. I try and say things as they were. But when we are doing well people look back at Chases failings and when we are doing badly they look back at Chases successes.
A Load of Squit 5,128 Posted December 31, 2016 It''s the satement that''s the problem. The Chase era wasn''t all bad, it was the usual mixture of good and bad just like the current one is.Being a long term supporter of the club we should all realise that it''s never constant, there will always be highs and lows. Your perception is probably formed on where you joined the ride, on the up, on the crest or downward.
JF 694 Posted December 31, 2016 It can''t be denied that the club had more success under Chase, but under his control we slipped out of the PL at the most crucial of times, just when the Sky money was coming into the game. And a golden opportunity was missed for the club to actually win something. There was a time under Chase that we were genuinely the best team in the country but we didn''t kick on from there and then the problems came and players were sold. ? 0 Posted December 31, 2016 JF was last season not another crucial time in the Premier League history with the increase in TV money?
JF 694 Posted December 31, 2016 Of cause it was and you could say nowadays that every season is a crucial season as the payments from sky and BT keep getting higher and higher. But our 1st PL relegation was at the beginning of the money coming in and came after we were genuinely one of the best teams in the country.
alex_ncfc 647 Posted December 31, 2016 Exactly Ron Manager, but nobody ever argues that! It''s always referred to that Chase ruined it for us when money was coming into the game, but what about the money that came into the Premier League at the end of last season?!Relegated without a fight, down with a whimper...but oh, let''s clap the team off and give them all a standing ovation after getting relegated hey? The Raptor 1,199 Posted December 31, 2016 Chase did some good and bad things as chairman but it ended very very badly with a lot of animosity. The same can be said of the current owners. I fear it could end the same way with alot of angry fans trying to hound them out.
JF 694 Posted December 31, 2016 Under Chase we nearly won the PL, had we pushed on instead of selling players the history of Norwich City may well have been far more glorious.
Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted December 31, 2016 Chase was a very astute individual who kept city punching above their weight for many years. In those days clubs like Norwich had to develop young or home grown players and sell on at a profit. He miscalculated in his fatal last year. Delia has been miscalculating for years with the odd stroke of luck. What she does in the next month or so will define her ownership. We could challenge for promotion next season with as much chance of being in a relegation scrap
JF 694 Posted December 31, 2016 Also we never ended up in the 3rd tier of football under Chase. These owners are not the golden saviours that many see them as being and their ownership has largely been poor
nutty nigel 7,509 Posted December 31, 2016 Sir Arthur was a far greater influence than Chase. After Chase engineered the demise of that board he had a great legacy. The current owners didn''t inherit a squad that had just won the clubs only major trophy. They inherited a squad that was fighting to stay in the second tier. But like I say it''s history. GJL Mid-Norfolk Canary 1,735 Posted December 31, 2016 how many "bad" seasons did we have under the 10 years of Robert Chase?
Keith Scott 243 Posted December 31, 2016 Both terrible owners. But Chase was much more savvy than the clueless cook.
Yellowbeagle 0 Posted December 31, 2016 Honestly, we had some great managers during the Chase era and thats what made the difference, Chase himself was a cretin always selling the silverware, he played Russian Roulette and eventually blew the clubs brains out. Now Delia and co have a major issue spotting a decent manager, but i could just imagine the meltdown on here and accusations of no ambition if they managed the club in the same way as Chase. Indy 3,283 Posted December 31, 2016 Chase was more successful end off. The difference is the fans have diluted to old family types who are just happy to have a club.Bowkett is sorely missed, he was the drive behin our success over the past 6 years. No coincidence that our serious decline is without that drive.
