Woodman 92 Posted January 5, 2017 £11m for a 19 year old League One striker, who''s scored 7 times in 25 games this season.Don''t know anything about him, but that''s some deal for Charlton.
Minster Canary 0 Posted January 5, 2017 Pretty sure the lad is a winger.
Cantiaci Canary 610 Posted January 5, 2017 How much would we have sold him for?I''ll take a punt at £1m!
AJ 1,359 Posted January 5, 2017 He''s got a market value of about 1.5m according to transfrmarkt! Very odd signing that one, don''t know a huge amount about the lad - but for £11m I assume they''ve done their homework. Mind you, I would have thought the same about us and RvW... Horse Renoir 1 Posted January 5, 2017 Ashton was what? 3 million after add ons? Pilkington was around 1.5 million. Elliot Bennet pre injury was 2 million...Absolutely mental prices now for League 1 footballers. You think it was only 5 or 6 years ago we were signing top Championship prospects for around 2/3 million. No wonder we seem to have moved onto signing lots of really young kids and trying to develop them. It''s just ridiculous that some L1 footballers are out of our price range. You can uncover some real gems if they kick on after their move but the standard of football is horrendous!
wcorkcanary 4,784 Posted January 5, 2017 Reported as £7.5 Mill over here. Big bucks for an unproven youngster.
Jacko 0 Posted January 5, 2017 Always been highly rated. So it was only a matter of time before a big PL club took the plunge on him. Interestingly last year Spurs were trawling the lower leagues for the next Dele Alli. They regarded the three most talented youngsters in the football league to be Dembele (now at Celtic), Lookman (now at Everton) and Maddison (now at Norwich). Move Klose 303 Posted January 5, 2017 When Spurs signed Alli in February 2015 they loaned him back to MK Dons for remainder of the season like we did wit Maddison. But once the next season started he was in the Spurs first team. Maddison would''ve probably had more apps for Spurs in the prem than he has with us.
AJ 1,359 Posted January 6, 2017 It''s a fair point Move Klose, and I think the frustration is that had Naismith left the club in the summer either on loan or perm, Maddison would have definitely stayed and been in the squad. That said, it seems the loan up north has been rather successful in blooding him, he''s been performing well and he''s also learning on the job. It also depends on development. A great example is Harry Kane, he essentially came out of nowhere in a combination of form/confidence and development suddenly coming together to turn him into monster of a player he is now.It is strange how some clubs seem so good at blooding youngsters, Southampton with a rather long list such as Bale, Shaw, Chambers, Walcott, Llallana, Oxlade-Chamberlain and even now players like Ward-Prowse. Obviously we''ve still not seen the impact of our improved Academy status yet, but in the coming years that''ll filter through. We''ve certainly got a talented crop of youngsters coming through the ranks now, but will we give them a chance. The Murphy''s is the only real example I can think of in recent years. Thompson might still play a part this season when fit.
Move Klose 303 Posted January 6, 2017 Im sure i remember hearing that the age group that we are supposed to start seeing the benefits from the catergory 1 status etc is the one that has the likes of Cantwell & Middleton in.
