Deal agreed for Left back

Recommended Posts

Norwich have agreed a deal to sign Sporting Lisbon left-back Marvin Zeegelaar, according to A Bola.

The report claims that Norwich have agreed a fee with Sporting for the fullback. The figure is thought to be €3.5m, although it could rise to €5m with add-ons.

The deal is expected to go through with the report stating that Zeegelaar will leave Sporting this month.

Marvin Zeegelaar will leave Sporting already in this reopening of the market. The 26-year-old Dutch left-back, whom the lions hired precisely a year ago, to Rio Ave, in exchange for about half a million euros, will now yield to the lion''s coffers a sum between 3.5 and five million .

The destination, news The BALL this Thursday, is Norwich, current 11th place in the Championship, second tier of English football, where the Portuguese play Ivo Pinto and Nélson Oliveira.

So if we spend most of the Olsson fee on a new LB, where does that leave some conspiracy theories?

Didn''t know much about him so had a little look, seems quick and can play left mid too. More of an attacking left back who leaves a lot to be desired defensively, so a left footed pinto basically.

Not sure how trustworthy his stats are on wikipedia, but doesn''t look like he''s player much football considering his age, only just over 120 games listed - which I find a bit odd.

Sporting reportedly paid 400,000 euros for him in November ''15 apparently, so to pay quite considerably more than that is quite a surprise if true.

Interesting he has had 2 games in English football whilst on loan to Blackpool.

To be fair, it seems that this deal is more than what we sold Olsson for.

Olsson was a solid 6/7 out of 10 every week - I hope we have done our homework on this guy as Olsson is hard to replace, especially considering our previous experience of buying Dutch from Lisbon...

I suppose the question would be would you rather we signed a ''name'' like this guy with all the money, or a lower league guy for half the money

4.3m euros isn''t it so a bit less than we got for Olsson. I guess the thinking is that we would lose Olsson in the future for less whereas this guy may retain his value or increase it if he is a success.

Looks very Pinto-esque on youtube, quick, tricky & strong, but not exactly defence minded.

Perhaps 5 at the back is the way to go? Seemed to work pretty well against Saints last night. Obviously tends to be a more defensive formation, but with 2 flying wing backs & a proper CF we might prosper. Last night McVeigh seemed to think that with players like Josh we carried a potent counter-attacking threat.

Know literally nothing about him, so won''t judge. Which is the fair thing to do, by the way.

4.3 million Euros comes out at about 3.7 million quid so money left over from the Olsson deal.A sensible deal financially, just hope he turns out to be good enough.

According to reports he was only sold for 500 000 last year.

A pity we did not buy him then,

Just a point of clarification really.

What are we really assuming sell to buy means?

Is it to raise capital or lessen or alter the wage bill?

Yeah, we should have snapped him up on a free as a youngster 👍

Good news if true, sounds like he''ll balance things out with Pinto on the other side.

Bit of £/euro confusion going on here.

Price is 5m euros (allegedly), which translates to £4.3m .

N.B. this is not the upfront cost (allegedly) which is 3m euros

...er (allegedly).

re "According to reports he was only sold for 500 000 last year. A pity we did not buy him then" - close to the end of his contract at the time, hence cut price deal

It might now mean we have to get in more than we receive to make up that shortfall. It could mean we now need to get in as much as we spend now. Or that we need to get in more, irrespective of the shortfall. It depends what the board think - realistically - about our chances of getting into the lay-offs, but my not very educated guess would be Option 2. What I am much surer about, whatever the board thinks of the play-offs, is that we willl be trying very hard to reduce the wage bill significantly.
