......and Smith must score.

Delia interview

Recommended Posts

Just confirms what we have known for a long time now. My Firm made an approach on behalf of a middle east based consortium just before Chris Houghton left. The message was clear then that the philosophy of the owners was to run the club as a mutual for the benefit of the supporters. That is the same as running a for profit company where your supporters are your shareholders and customers. I applaud the sentiment but the reality is that you need ambition, smart operators at the helm and funding to stay competitive. The fact that NCFC attract 26k each home game is admirable and keeps the light on, however TV money, sponsorship and global revenue lines have rapidly changed the business model. If similar sized clubs can get this right by accepting new investment why can''t Norwich. Answer is simple - they dont want to, dont need to whilst loyalty and an acceptance of the position remains the same. difficult one because unless some financial ambition is shown recent history has demonstrated that the outcome is not necessarily favourable. btw to attract serious investment there would need to be wholesale changes at Board level and no doubt senior management level as well including i suspect the 1st team manager and coaching staff But as this is not going to happen anytime soon no need for change. the accounts are in the black so where is the motivation?

The only way you can get rid of the cook and her Labites

is to refuse to renew season tickets and attend games.

Her report in the Times was an disgrace to supporters!!

disgraceful to say that they don''t even listen to enquiries any more. I would love to see the crowd turn on them.

She should have done that interview in our first season in the prem under Lambert or similar - shed barely get any stick for it.

Doing it when we''re on a poor run of form and recently got relegated in a season where many felt spending a bit more in the summer would have kept us up is probably taking the pee a little bit.

Credit to her though, it''s the ultimate troll thing to do.

The timing of the article only heaped more pressure on the manager and pushed people towards a more fociferouss reaction against the manager and players.

Picking virtually the same team, and inept goalkeeper, and losing at home hardly vindicates her intelligent manager comment.

What was the benefit to the Club of her giving the interview?

Delia''s outlook is admirable

but its 30 fucking years out of date

by refusing to sell and keeping the club ''local'' all it does is put us further and further away from success

there seems to be this idea that achieving promotion to the top flight is successful, but thats not really success, finishing in the top 3 in the premier league, winning cups, playing in europe, THATS success, we havnt achieved that since our previous owner.

the world has moved on and we have an outdated rotting sentimental fool/family in charge who will never leave until the fans start voting with their feet, if they really love the club theyd admit defeat and look for investment, like most things in this country the family jewels were sold some time ago, time to sell the family jewel to one of those oh so nasty multil millionaire foreigners delia

That is a very insightful comment FCC. It was very strange for her to come out with these comments now. I read into it that (a) she was really backing Neil no matter what......such a strong message it could not be read any other way (b) that she felt people needed a board view. That also came across quite clear! But it all serve to put huge pressure on the manager in a perverted kind of way. She was trying to be supportive but then his performance. Performance in team selections and game management were of the usual kind.

Are people forgetting that it''s only 7 years since we nearly went into administration under her leadership, the way we are now with a huge wage big time players and no money in the bank or big benefactor we are only destined for treading water without promotion this year.

Can see next year could be a big season to where our club fates lays.

I fear that she''s swimming nobly but futily against the current. It is easy to talk so tough when the club is still awash with international players and has a big chance to get back up but such a philosophy will look arcane and detrimental if we fail to bounce.

If we don''t go up this year we''ll deteroriate into a bog standard Champs side very rapidly and the Lambert revolution will go down in the annals as a great missed opportunity.

Her claim she wasn''t drunk during the ''letsbeavvinyou'' rant kind of gives the article perspective.

She''s saved my club on more than 1 occasion and for that i''ll be forever grateful but now she''s just a confused old lady whose miss placed loyalty and beliefs have no place in this environment. Unless Ed & Jez can take control of this shambles, were doomed.

very uninspiring stuff. looks like we are here to stay. if that''s the case, I hope we sack off the big earners asap and play the youth players. the likes of Matthews, cantwell, maddison, efete, murphys, Thompson, Morris, toffolo could work out great in the long run.

If you are referring to the book that has brought us Stephen Fry, Ed Balls and Wolves reject Jez Moxey, maybe he''d be better prepared if he served his apprenticeship somewhere outside the family.

And how does this handing of an asset to a family member stand alongside Delia''s often spouted Socialist beliefs. I thought she favoured taxing inheritance to the hilt so that wealth would go to the state, or is that just for others?

Don''t know if you were aware but the reason for the interview was to commemorate (?) her 20 years since she took over.

My personal opinion is that it is time for Delia and Michael to go if we want Norwich City to progress. I genuinely thank them for everything they have done for the club over the last 20 years, they have had their loans repaid, we are debt free, it is time for somebody wealthier to take over, otherwise we are going to stagnate in the Championship as we compete with more and more wealthy clubs........

They had a little turn. Andrew thought Roeder was the dogs wotsits. I doubt we''d have the club we have now with the likes of those two. If they did try we dodged a bullet for sure.

You''re right.

On the same premise I think, when I die I won''t bother passing on anything I own to my family, it''ll go straight to a Chinese consortium.

BRB, off to rewrite my will.

She''s just a typical champagne socialist on par with the Russell Brands of this world, like all the others it''s a, do as I say not as I do form of socialism.

So my question at the AGM would be: "How many inquiries have there been about purchasing the club since 2008? And how did you ever hope to attract investment if your first line of negotiation was "we''re not going to sell"?""

After the interview the issue is no longer should Neil stay but are the Stowmarket 2 fit and proper owners of the club

Increasingly it is clear they are not.

She is a custodian of the club it''s not her personal train set to do with what she pleases.

Enough is enough it is time for her and nepotism Tom to go

I get your point Morty but this is a little different to yours or mine wills!

1) Passing on a business is only worth doing if the person its being passed onto is fit and proper to take that role.

2) There are at least 25,000 other people with a vested interest.

3) The club could be sold for an insane profit to what Delia got the club for and would still be able to pass that money to nephew Tom if necessary.

I''ve always defended what I thought was Delia''s stance on this and I actually have no problem with us automatically turning away Chinese consortiums etc. The problem I have is her sayinf we won''t even listen to ANY inquiries means even if a lifelong billionaire NCFC fan came along, or has come along, we''ve not considered the best interests of the club in refusing to even acknowledge enquiries.

I personally thought the interview raised a lot more questions than it did satisfactory answers.

Automatically saying no to investment is just absolutely ludicrous. Surely Delia Smith should remember that she was once an outsider to the club? By doing what''s she has said she could block the path of the next Delia to the club. If that makes sense?

The thing with her is that after a few sherbets she just can''t keep her big mouth shut. You can just visualise the interview now in her home, onto the 2nd bottle of wine, giving it the big un about money destroying football and they are the knights in shining armour who will stand up against it. The truth is no one outside of Norfolk gives a shit and we will be left behind

Yep OR, she seems to have done a total about face in terms of her attitude towards the club and its customers, sorry, fans! As you say, ''her train set''!

The point isn''t about being a train set. It''s more a point of ethos and the well being of the club as a comunity based venture. The risks of getting in outside investors who aren''t Norwich through and through is something that a lot of people wouldn''t want. Yes, you''d have the money, maybe, but you wouldn''t have the local connection - and once you lose that, you would find it almost imossible to get that back. Ask Cardiff, Hull, Ipswich etc etc. We are very, very, lucky to have owners with the ethos they do - because it is in the interests of all Norwich fans. It''s about ethos, not train sets.

Now Lakey you do come out with some sh**e, but "community based venture"! Really. Delia Smith and MWJ stipulate it''s their club, and they will do as they please regardless of the community. How does that relate to your statement?
