Chemical Bro 0 Posted November 14, 2016 Absolutely........... Not! 😀Not a bad manager at the right club clearly. We went from the most attacking manager to the most defensive at the time. It's Character Forming 1,156 Posted November 14, 2016 I couldn''t see a Hughton team in the Champs regularly losing/drawing having been a goal or two in front... He''s always done well in the Championship. And his teams are always well-organized and disciplined. Jerome is exactly the sort of striker a Hughton team needs. So yes, I''d have him back. I''d want to sack him as soon as we got promoted, mind.
Move Klose 303 Posted November 14, 2016 Yes.Hughton problem was he took over from a manager who was very popular who got poached by a bigger club so was a hard task to take over. Most managers get jobs from one which a manager has been sacked from for poor performances.Taking over from a sami hyypia side near bottom of champ and doing a decent job then slowly improving them year on year is why he''s loves there. Shows that even managers performance improves by not appearing here. Fickle indeed. Look forward, not back.
Or perhaps it shows that his approach to management is pretty effective in the Championship, whereas in the Premiership in his second season it became negative and utterly tedious - as well as ineffective. And some fans are able to work out that, given we''re now back in the Championship, he could be a good manager to have....
lake district canary 4,518 Posted November 14, 2016 No. I wouldn''t want him to be subject to the moronic negativity that marred even the beginning of his tenure. The bleatings of fans in that first pre-season, the moaning in the first few weeks, then the lack of credit given to him in that unbeaten spell. The way the fans turned on him so quickly after the 3-4 Man City result. Then very little credit, despite the finishing tenth in a wickedly difficult and tense league. The way fans carried on at him all through the second season, denying anything good that happened and always focusing on the bad stuff. No wonder he and the team failed that season. The fans never warmed to him, even his honesty in interviews pre and post match were used against him. How he was expected to get his team motivated and confident in that background, I don''t know. His greatest fault was not being Paul Lambert.A good manager wherever he''s been. Shame the fans couldn''t see it. But then you see the negativity that occurs after a spell of 7 out of 8 wins this season and you realise that reality has no part in modern football spectatorship. People say fans have no effect on the team, but the Hughton era went was a self-fulfilling inevitably - he was on a hiding to nothing from the word go. I hope the AN era doesn''t go the same way. I do fear that fan negativity will be his downfall, whereas what should happen, of course, is that fans see beyond the diffculties we have and stay positive. That would send a message to the team and the manager that fans are behind them. Not a bad thing, wouldn''t you say?
I would posit that his greatest fault was playing very defensive football that sucked a lot of the joy out of attending matches. As you know, I am not one of those to jump on the ''sack the manager'' bandwagon at the first sign of trouble, but I really didn''t look forward to matchdays while he was our manager after the first six months (once people had worked out his one tactic). I can handle us being utter s**t, but when you have such a talented squad of players and they play such negative football, that''s going to have an impact upon the way fans react to him.Unarguably a very nice man, but I was delighted to see the back of him because I''d had more than I could take of his one-dimensional negative tactics. Horse Renoir 1 Posted November 14, 2016 Nope.He signed off on the RVW buy to lead the line in his preferred way of playing. Hooper was his backup, in that setup...To this day it absolutely amazes me that anybody in football with a keen mind and access to scouting reports thought this was a good ideaAbsolutely clueless at PL level, much like AN so what would be the point in replacing one with the other?
