Big fan of ELP and King Crimson in my youthand was sad to hear the news this morning. Stuck Tarkus on and listened to it for the first time in years. Still quality.
Best Christmas song in my view. RIP.
With respect that title goes to Fairy Tale of New York, with The Pogues and MacColl.I''m afraid these depressing deaths from that era will carry on. What is remarkable how many have survived this long. You really would not, back then, have put any money at all on four of the original Rolling Stones still being alive, five decades later.

Got to agree with you there Purple.  I remember when my daughter heard that track at about age 5 and loved it, insisting we replay it incessantly.  It was only on about the 5th play that it occurred to me some of the lyrics were not terribly age-appropriate but fortunately she was too young to be aware of what they meant.

Hands up who''s been driving home for Christmas and heard "Driving Home for Christmas" come up on the radio. That''s got to be one of the more enduring and less contrived chrimbo songs out there.

With respect Purple, the best Christmas song in my view can''t be the Pogues one as it is not in my view the best Christmas song. But my view may not correspond with your view in which case in your view the best Christmas song would be the Pogues one, but not in my view so I couldn''t disagree with you on your view as it is your view. Now do be a good chap and pass the sherry............

I was sad to hear this news, but i do feel that John Peel had it bang on when he described ELP as a waste of talent and electricity.

And don''t get me started on "Driving Home for Christmas" - how someone who gave us "Hello Friend", "The Curse of the Traveller" and "The Road to Hell" could come up with that piece of puke inducing, over sugared, confection is beyond me.

I think even dear ol'' Cliff''s '' Mistletoe & Wine '' is less cringy.I''m afraid it''s Wizzard and Slade for me.....
