Good Teams Play Badly and Win...............

Recommended Posts

If we had played a better team tonight and they had scored more goals we would have lost.

Club''s in turmoil.

We haven''t exactly hit the ground running but we do have points on the board and are in the top 4. Winning breeds confidence, and Newcastle aside, who are these top sides we are yet to play ? This is by an large an awful league and we are playing below par yet 2 points off the top.

Let me explain the points system,win=3 points.

Doesn''t matter how you get the 3 points as long as you get them.

Discussion over. Goodnight.

Honestly shuck there was a guy just chatting to me in the pub, miserable as sin. Even came out with "well that lafferty should get a chance" amongst other things. And some guy now telling me Wigan should have won.

A win is a win.

But it would also be fair to say we don''t look a really good team at the moment. Just strong enough to beat weak sides.

At the moment we are not a "good" team. We have had a couple of recent results where we have got away with being average. In 7 games we''ve had one decent performance and one nightmare. In most of the others we''ve looked good and awful in equal amounts and ridden our luck against some pretty average teams. The potential is there to be better than we have been but that potential needs to materialize quickly because sooner or later luck will turn against us.If we are to be serious promotion contenders then we need to be better than we have been thus far.The defence is decidedly dodgy when put under any sort of pressure and fitness appears to be a major issue.
Our biggest enemy tonight was complacency. We were just too comfortable at 2 nil.
That and the Fact that Jerome seems incapable of finishing

Just strong enough to beat weak sides.
Granted, Neil''s tactics & formation/s aren''t much of a spectacle and not the ''Norwich way'' of entertaining football we''ve witnessed before Hughton arrived at the club, but I''m looking at this Division and coming to the conclusion that the only sides thus far we have to be concerned about are Newcastle, Villa less so and the likes of our bogey''s in Fulham & Barnsley. That said, Neil really has to ditch the 4-2-3-1 -- we''re not defensively suited to it through a lack of two creative DM''s that form the double pivot and we simply don''t have the brains to carry it off for the duration of the season - we are neither Barcelona or Borussia Dortmund and neither do we possess their top levels of coaching where players skills are honed from a young age -- more''s the pity. What we do have is one of the strongest squads in the Division and despite our decent start to the season it will have to be utilised better for future fixtures in order to prevent us from getting found out and for the sake of enterprising football.

I would say this is as good as we can play , one excellent showing at a very weak Blackburn followed by six very average performances would suggest the six is the norm . Nowhere near enough firepower in the side and the defence is still just as shaky as its always been . Promotion ? dont think so .

It''s simple good teams have an aura about them.

We have that aura of a top side just relegated from the premier league. This allows us to be shown more respect from other teams then is probably due. The opposition don''t fully believe they are on a level playing field with us.

This is resulting in us being able to race into early 1-2 goal leads. When the opponents suddenly realise; ''hang on, their not as great as we expected'', it lifts their spirits and they start get the confidence to play. But by that time, we''ve usually done enough to win the game.

Unfortunately a poor end to the game gets remembered, and tarnishes the 90 minute performance.

Love it Lincoln - these unsavvy teams - we could be well clear by Christmas before people realise we''ve only got one striker !

Sometimes bad teams play badly and win.

Granted it is often accepted that playing badly and still winning is the mark of a top team. However, this mantra only applies when poor performances are the exception.

But which is it for us, the exception or the rule?

Actually, good clubs play well. entertain their fans. sign players in decent time to strengthen their playing squad, jettison deadwood. good clubs dont get relegated 9months after everyone predicted they would and continue with a tried and tested recipe which doesnt work.

Does sutch a perfect club exist? Even when Man Utd were at their pomp Fergie bought some really bad players, he also had to wait for the last day of the transfer window for player deals to complete and very few clubs have never been relegated.

Good teams play badly and win on occasions.

You can''t play badly an entire season and expect promotion.

We were lucky against Wigan, had they been better opposition we would probably have lost - luckily they were pretty woeful in front of goal.

Good teams rarely play badly.

We seem to be making a habit of it ... if not badly well below expectations.

Points wise we are probably about three below expectations considering our benign fixture list thus far, but then my expectations are unrealistically high, for now.
