The Squad

Recommended Posts

Whys it necessary for the club to have the size of squad it has if it is largely not used?

Paul Lambert was a manager who utilised whatever he had available and would choose a team to fit the opposition. However, Neill is old school with the adage of ''if you playing well enough, you keep the shirt''.

The begs the question why does Norwich City need to squad it has? Surely it would be better to have a smaller, yet higher quality squad which is arguably a better use of resources?

He didn''t have the strength in depth, but still used it. I''m not saying Neill is right or wrong as ultimately we will know in May, but the squad isn''t being used at present.
Bearing in mind we won 5 games in a row before last night, why would the manager change it?
Because that is what happens in the real world.  Managers change teams to suit a match or an opponent or to give a player a rest or to tweak tactics or to keep the squad competitive or to try new things or to freshen things up or to correct mistakes that might be creeping in or to give players that are in form in training a chance.......or just for the sake of it.  Any other reason needed? You''ve been citing Benitez a few times this morning. He changes his team all the time, win lose or draw. Is he not a good manager then?
So now Alex doesn''t tinker enough..?
The point is that making hard and fast rules about team selection - ie "don''t change a winning team" - that some people have been doing on here for the last few weeks, then telling anyone that disagrees with them how stupid they are,  flies in the face of the way football works these days.   The way Lambert worked was to give all his players a sense that they could achieve what they set out to do and nearly every player repaid him with good performances, with one or two notable exceptions.  On the whole his approach worked....at Norwich, anyway. Benitez tries to get his squad members to feel part of the whole by using all or most of them. It is a reasonable way to do it - and it worked for lambert too. This thing of "must" keep the same team becuase it is winning is bound to fail sooner or later - through tiredness, staleness, or injury or suspension - so why get hung up on it?

You have to think Pritchard and Canos must be well pleased they signed , got just about no chance of getting a game and the same goes for Oliviera  who is only going to get 5 mins at the end of some games , why the hell didnt we spend the money actually improving whats on the pitch ?? . Great midfield , shit strikeforce and defence , got to blame the lower league Scottish manager .
