Kyle Lafferty 2, San Marino 0

Recommended Posts

Obviously have a conflict of interest to declare on this one, but have to admit Kyle made an impressive 14 minute cameo tonight against albeit very poor opposition tonight. He bagged two goals and was very close to claiming a hat-trick. He was surprisingly neat and tidy and was a humongous improvement on the big-hearted but little-talented Josh Magennis.

Anyway, shame he''s pretty much done with us but for me he is still very much capable at Championship level and should Cam or Oliviera get injured, I wouldn''t hesitate to throw him in. He now has 9 goals in 10 appearances (8 starts, 2 subs) in NI qualifiers. Not too shabby.

He''s got a very poor record in the championship. Still, he bagged a couple against a defence made up of a postman, accountant and painter and decorator so fair play to him,

It''s not so much his ability at club level that is the problem.    He was actually pretty good for quite a few weeks at the start of the last championship season with us, contributing to taking us to the top of the table at Portaloo Rd.  And that was playing on the left.    What let him down after that was that when he got a chance in the team after that, he looked as if he would get booked or sent off and his appearances got less and less as a result. Shame really. Those first few weeks were promising and he looked to be a problem for defenders. He hit the post and bar more than once and was unlucky not to score more goals.  History now because he doesn''t really get a look in.....but if he did, who knows?   Maybe even on the left where he played for Rangers.........oh no, he''d have to get in the queue for that position......[;)]

Lafferty has never been a complete disaster, on the pitch at least, but it has got to the stage whereby his frequent scoring for Northern Ireland is a positive only in as much as it might increase his value a bit when we are able to unload him. Preferably in the next transfer window.

If he can stay out of the bookies and play to his potential in training then maybe he can rival Oliviera for a seat on the bench and/or a cup game.
Still, he bagged a couple against a defence made up of a postman, accountant and painter and decorator so fair play to him,
He scored the same in 14 minutes as the whole England team did in 90 minutes against pretty much the same quality of opposition.
