Team for Wolves

Recommended Posts
Whittaker played as a DM against Brentford once. I think you missed a trick with your team. Which wasn''t the team that was picked by the manager, was it?
Give it a rest love-do something useful, like sorting your hair out-it''s a fecking mess.

Trouble is you didn''t pick a team that COULD be played. Dorrans will never play wide left for us and I doubt we''ll be seeing Murph through the middle anytime soon.
...but then its easier to dismiss someone who has a slightly different outlook, than than just going along with them, isn''t it?
Of course it is, but when that outlook is completely nonsensical, you''d actually have to be a bit of a fool to really go along with it, and funnily enough, most of us aren''t fools and don''t want to be seen as fools either. To clarify:Howson is NOT a right wingerDorrans is NOT a left wingerMurphy IS a winger and NOT an attacking midfielderYou don''t drop your top striker who''s on great form for no reason, nor do you play a winger in a far less familiar position when you have players more than capable of doing a great job there already, and you certainly do not push your centre midfielders out wide purely to accomodate a young player with less than TEN minutes of football at this level. The whole premise was flawed from the off, in fact it was more akin to a Hughton approach of defensive mentality, but with a whole new level of bat$hit crazy thrown in for good measure, but apparently WE''RE the ones in the wrong for calling you on it...ok, you keep telling yourself that chief...
Curious, is''t it. I know my team was a bit creative, but it turns out Dorrans has played quite a bit on the left in his career and I discover today that Ja Murphy played last season in the no 10 role for Coventry.  Funny old game. [^o)]
Problem is that doesn''t justify anything you''re saying.
Unless of course, you think Dorrans is a better Left-Mid than our current attacking options AND better on the left than he is in the middle (which is non-sensical before you even start).
And just because Jacob filled in as a Number 10 for a few games doesn''t mean that he should play in that position ahead of players we have who SPECIALISE in that position - i.e Hoolahan, Pritchard, Maddison & Naismith.

But then Howson, like it or not has been played on the right many times

for Norwich - to try an make us more solid across midfield. That is my

reasoning for Dorrans on the left too - as with when Johnson was there - to

offer solidity - as well as offer something in attack.  As for Jacob playing in the number 10, well for me he

has every chance of becoming that kind of player - and I thought that

before I knew Coventry had played him there. And as a number 10 with so

much pace, in a line up like mine - away from home, that could work very

well for a team relying on the occasional break.Let''s be clear,

I agree that it is different and is not likely to happen, but it is a

team designed to rectify something that we are prone to - giving away

soft goals through lack of defensive support from midfield and offer

some pace up front.  We used that set up in the last Championship season to ensure we were frugal at the back - and it worked.  Four strong midfielders across the park with Redmond and a striker as the main threat up front. I recognise all the good players we''ve got etc etc, but this was just to offer an idea based on the eventual success we had last time - and how solid we were away from home (and if Brady wasn''t available or on form).  It was just an idea.

Unfortunately Lakey your revival of this thread was nothing more than an attempt to provoke a reaction. Yes, Dorrans may have played on the left but this was SEVERAL years ago, with a different manager, system and teammates. Many players adapt their game as they get older and Dorrans may be incapable of effectively playing this position. And to reiterate, to play him there ahead of several members of our current squad would be ludicrous. You''re right, it was just an idea, but one that several posters thought was a poor one. Unfortunately your ego won''t allow you to be seen as ''wrong'' so you''ve gone round in circles trying to prove otherwise, even digging up ancient clips and information from several years ago. I don''t know, maybe time to just give up?

I have this to offer, you were talking nonsense and are now spending several pages trying to convince people you weren''t. News just in, nobody is buying it.

In fact it''s going pretty much like most threads you are involved in.

I''ve got to say Lakey, If Alex Neil went with your team - and lost - there would be uproar amongst the fans and rightly so.I suspect even you would question his sanity if it did happen. [:S]

The international break.  Sigh - this message board gets so tedious.

Does anyone know which of our squad are on international duty and what games they have ?  I''ll look it up and post later but I''m at work at the moment, so if anyone else has some free time... just a suggestion....

If Bradley Johnson can have such a surprising effect on the left of midfield, why can''t Dorrans? I doubt anyone saw the latter coming, after he''d spent so long in central mid, with questionable success.I wouldn''t like to see us first try it in a competitive game, mind you.

What sticks in my mind is the Blackburn away game in the last championship season (which I was at) where I''m 99% certain he played wide left and Johnson took the inside position in that game, although I''m sure someone will correct me if I''m wrong.  It was one of his first games for us and I was following him during that game to see how he might be fitting in. And on the left he looked good.

Your feeling would be an incorrect one, my friend. Feel free to believe what you like, however - It doesn''t really bother me either way.Just playing devil''s advocate, mostly. But i''ve heard far more outlandish suggestions from City fans than Dorrans on the left, and we''ve all seen managers make stranger team selections. Some worked, some didn''t.Let''s be honest, short of it being tried, we''ll never know, will we? But it strikes me that LDC is free to make whatever suggestions he likes, on a public football forum.

Anyone is free to make any statement they like.

This includes the right to tell someone who is talking nonsense that they are talking nonsense.

If people want freedom of speech to air opinions, then they must accept others have the right to point out those opinions may be ill thought out. I am bring charitable here.

When those opinions are challenged as being poppycock, crying "bully" is a weak and feeble response.

Dragging the level of debate down to a slanging match is what happens when people don''t give me the courtesy of  allowing me to have opinions and ideas without being accused of "messing about" or "being controversial for the sake of it" or some other such nonsense.  As always, in amongst you and your kind, there are some posters who actually are happy discussing ideas - unfortunately they get largely lost in the cross fire.   The team I thought of for Newcastle was a defensive line up.  We could have done with one. Following that result it seemed sensible to suggest the same set up again.  After all, we are all a bit fed up of defensive lapses.  The rest is history, but suggesting a defensive line up should have sparked debate on the merits of an attacking line up as opposed to a defensive one, not paroxysms and wailing about how dare I suggest anything a bit different.  Discuss, argue and debate. For honest posters, it''s not that hard.

Perhaps we should talk about the honest posters who have told you that you were talking out of your ar$e with your proposed team line up. I am a bully, but what is their excuse?

If we were to do a straw poll, 99% of the posters would say playing Dorrans on the left is ridiculous and indeed your whole team was silly. Near enough everybody is saying you''re talking nonsense, does that not say anything to you? At the end of the day you love being the centre of attention and think you''re a celebrity on this forum when in fact most posters probably think you''re a bit of a joke.

If I indulge you for a minute Lakey I have two questions....

1) What is it about Dorrans you think would make him a good left midfielder?

With Johnson I could see the thinking- his best qualities were hard work, energy and a belting left foot which meant he could run up and down the wing all day, put in crosses and most importantly for him, take a shot.

I don''t see those in Dorrans- his best qualities are in his range of passing, willingness to show for the ball and his positional discipline. I don''t get this idea that he gives better defensive cover- tackling is one of his weaknesses imo.

2) Why would you play Dorrans at left midfield over (deep breath...) Brady, Josh Murphy, Pritchard and Canos? All of whom are more naturally suited to a left wing role.

Plenty told me what they thought about the line up and I fought my corner, no problem there.  Thisisbabyish went off on the deep end, but he was the only one who got personal until this........from you :  "Is it still bullying when everyone thinks you''re a tw@t?"

I may get things wrong, I may irritate people with the way I post, I may be like a dog with a bone, but I long ago learned that your kind of posting is the lowest form of posting there is. Try showing a bit of humanity sometimes, it doesn''t hurt.  My threads are generally about football - and I keep saying it but by the morning of the match NO-ONE had started a line up thread.  So there was some kind of need for it, especially after what happened at the Newcastle match.  All I did was suggest a defensive line up. You carry on, I''m sure you won''t take any notice of me - I''ve tried reasoning with you - and your sad sidekick - but I realise I''m wasting my time trying to appeal to your better instincts.  Your egos won''t let you give an inch.

I don''t think Dorrans could play left midfield in the system we currently play with such attacking players and high fullbacks. But I''m sure he could, and has, in a conventional 442. These are two totally different positions needing different qualities.

I''ve said this before but I watched Dorrans in one of his first games for us - on the left at Blackburn - he played well there for an hour, with Johnson taking the inside role.   And I posted this earlier in the thread  - "Dorrans is good on the left - take a look at this clip of him at WBA -

interesting to see how many of them are with him on the left touchline -

particularly near the beginning and 2.40 minutes onwards.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDiGNT2zu_A "Dorrans has a good shot on him and he can cut in from the left or supply good crosses.  Defensively he is imo better and more experienced at defending than Canos and Murphy.  Pritchard I don''t know about.   As for Brady, my whole premise for the Newcastle line up and for this match was that he was not on form and could conceivably be dropped - hence my thoughts about Dorrans. As for the other change in midfield - bringing in Thompson - that was more controversial, but he has figured in the first team.  As Nutty has just said, it involves a different approach - but that was kind of my point in setting out these line ups. It was a change of emphasis to address the defensive frailties - which showed in both games yet again.  Fortunately we held on gainst Wolves.  Maybe we won''t need to go down the more defensive route, I hope not, an attacking policy is more attractive to watch, but it is something AN could do - and has done in the past.
