Turner anybody ?

Recommended Posts

Worth a go - but Klose isn''t. Far to soft for the Champs - no stomach for a scrap and has to go off for treatment every time someone brushes past him, or out muscles him.

No desire. Should have moved him on.

No. Past his best by some way and if he played alongside Klose we''d have to sit so deep we''d have to sit on the edge if our own penalty area.

Klose is worth sticking with in as much as we know he can perform at a higher level. However a new centre back or maybe two should have been signed in the summer.

Yes, Turner is slow.

But he can defend and he can read a game which is something our big ''young'' hope Bennett cannot do.

Turner also scored a couple of Premiership goals for us and not only knows how to score from set pieces but knows how to defend them.

How many goals have we conceded from set pieces this season and how many goals have we scored from set pieces?

Finally, it is very sad that I can actually think that he should be considered but that has more to do with the qualities of the present defenders than his qualities which are now declining all the time as he gets older.

i thought it was key that hughton DIDNT target klose; he chose to take glenn murphy wide (irritating the unprofessional Olsson) or deep where our defence didnt follow and where he was able to dominate tettey and keep possession, something we couldnt do.

When he pulled to olsson he dominated too easily and shifted our defence left, leaving martin easy prey for the impressive skalak.

Klose is having problems, but despite that he remains head and shoulders better than in descending order Bassong, Martin, Bennett & Turner, including at yesterdays game

As for Godfrey the leeds game confirms both that he has talent and will be a player for us but also that he is nowhere near ready for the championship yet.

Yes we have issues, but throwing the water out with the bath water is just ludicrous.

Spot on.....at last someone else that actually see''s whats happening on the pitch rather than assuming a centre forward plays against a centre back.

The only time Timmy was targeted was when we tried to play out from the back.....Hootun had done his homework and worked out that our 3 options to play out are Timmy Russ and Tettey

Timmy being particularly predictable in going sideways or looking long for Jerome in the air or Olsson driving on the flank

Tettey again is only ever going to move it sideways if Wes or Dorrans drop in deep beside him.....usually resulting in it going all the way across the back and ending with Mc Govern kicking long

Russ at least will move forward with the ball and can usually be relied upon to find a half decent pass....yesterday Brighton pressed high and fast giving limited options especially when the front 4 were static.

Unfortunately we are missing Ivo''s movement down the right....and Wes and Pritchard struggle when space is denied as it was yesterday.....

AN was right in one respect though it was a case of attack v defence......there attack certainly showed our defence the way its done !

Turner is 32, and could probably still do a job at this level. But is he genuinely better than 2 of Martin/Klose/Bennett/Bassong? I''m not sure he''ll ever be more than back-up for us now.
And also the difference last time we got relegated....

I''d sooner have no centre back than have Bassong back in.
