Should the Transfer Window ...

Recommended Posts

close the day before the season starts, or stay at 31st Aug, or be an open, ongoing thing, lasting all year round?

There is definitely an element of panic with one or two individuals on here, that think if we haven''t concluded our business by Saturday, that all is lost. Others are patient enough to pass judgement, once the window has shut.

Who is ''right''?

Tough one really. I''d edge towards having it close before the season starts though. Seems daft to be able to see the first few games before buying more players. it''d be a nightmare if you got a load of injuries after the first few games though.

Definitely should close before season starts, makes first few weeks a bit of mockery. Lots of uncertainty and quite a few mystery injuries for players looking to move on (Brady?!?).

Think the problem is the different season starts across Europe

True.  However, the solution is easy. Start the season three weeks later.  Gives the players a longer break and more recovery time from the previous season.  It means more midweek games, but then that shouldn''t  be too much for the players as they get a break during international weekends, where if they are involved it can inspire them, if they are not they get a rest.  Was it last Easter where there were no games at all?  The organisation of the football calender is questionable at the very least. Where has the common sense gone?

Nah, lets go back to a transfer free for all. I never understood the point of imtroducing a transfer window in the first place....

Happy with the idea of a transfer window to ensure big clubs dont simply buy their way out of trouble each months, allowing the other claubs to at least have some months of stability.

Overall I think the current approach works well.

The biggest issue is which start of the season applies, given the international nature of transfers? Is it ours, Russian, Icelandic, Brazilian seasons its based upon? all suffer to a great or lesser degree on this. Would that mean prem club could buy from us next week as their season hadnt started while we couldnt replace until jan?

The window is geared towards the european leagues and is porbably the least painful compromise
