Feedthewolf 4,844 Posted August 5, 2016 Apologies if this has already been covered in other threads.Alex Neil has just been on SSN, quote as follows:"I think we''ve still got a little bit of work to do in terms of... firepower is the big thing for us. If we get a couple more strikers, which we will do before the window ends, then I think the rest of the team is certainly as strong, if not stronger than it was before."A couple of strikers... fighting talk. Good stuff.

GJL Mid-Norfolk Canary 1,735 Posted August 5, 2016 fighting "talk" is all very well.......action is requiredwe''re now one day short of a complete close season without signing any strikers.....not really good enough.
Syteanric 1 Posted August 5, 2016 So "2 more" has gone to "at least one more"... will that go to ''we scoured Europe but...."
king canary 7,578 Posted August 5, 2016 Paddy Davit mentioned that AN has said before about a ''proven Championship striker'' so I''d imagine we''d go for one player from this league and maybe a loanee (like N''Doye) to provide depth and competition. Lessingham Canary 99 Posted August 5, 2016 If its going to be a proven championship striker then could be a lot worse than Nhaki Wells from Huddersfield.

Jools 584 Posted August 5, 2016 We don''t need to sign any strikers. If our ''equivalents'' to Marcus Rashford can''t find the passion nor skill to start knocking them in, what the f*ck is the point of paying the wages, the academy, coaches or us as a f*cking football team? GJL Mid-Norfolk Canary 1,735 Posted August 5, 2016 given our recent record of players coming through the academy into our first team there is a very reasonable case for disbanding it altogether....we''re spending a lot of money every season to maintain a grade A academy status, to just release youngsters at the end of their contracts and supply lower league teams and the likes of Lowestoft with a new intake every summer. we''d be better off carrying on with what we''re presently doing with the likes of Maddison,Godfrey,Thompson and just scouring young talent from lower league club''s first teams and snapping them up. The Murphys, Morris, Loza, Cantwell etc. are all graduates from before Cat A status, I believe.

[/quote]Curious that you mention CM01/02 specifically - incidentally my favourite iteration of the game. Niche response, but eerily accurate. It''s a difficult balance, and I would love to see youngsters coming off the Academy conveyor belt a la Southampton, but realistically the manager changes so much at any football club, his first priority is always instant success, and that can rarely be achieved by investing in youth players and giving them lots of first-team football. The difficulty is that the FAYC-winning team were Adams''s babies, and for whatever reason they haven''t kicked on in the way that we''d hoped. With Cat 1 status, you can recruit and retain talent from further afield, and coupled with the improvements at Colney over the summer this should (theoretically at least) pave the way for a more talented crop of youngsters coming through in a couple of years.
