Should we just steal the Irish chant "come on you boys in green"?

Recommended Posts

So here''s the chants:

"Come on you boys in green,

Come on you boys in green,

Come on you boys,

Come on you boys in green,

Come on you boys in green,

Come on you boys in green,

Come on you boys in green,

Come on you boys,

Come on you boys in green..."

Controversial, I know.

So, I can hear the arguments already "what are the socio-economic factors of using this chant?" "Clubs in... Crisis??!?x11!" "My grandad once, I refuse in principle!" I can see you "hrumph"ing like a 6 year old that''s been refused a milky bar but I put to you this argument:

1- it has literally 6 words in it

2- it mentions green. One of our primary playing colours

3- it "rolls" I.e you just repeat it when finished

Is this not a good idea? Why be ashamed at stealing a chant?

Maybe we can alternate like this;

"Come on you boys in yellow,

Come on you boys in green"

Might work?

Yellow just cramps the flow a bit.

We sing "keep the green flag flying high" etc

Just think it''s a catchy chant and it''s not like the Irish are going to give a crap if we steal it.
