As for Irvine, well with a hazy head now on my first coffee, he has the experience we lacked in Holt, probably as good as we could have hoped for on paper so good luck to him.

Ex manager with plenty of Championship and a small amount of admittedly underwhelming PL experience who specialises in defensive organisation in as our first team coach. Looks a good fit and appointment to me, like having Hughton as a coach.

Only potential negative I can point out if I really look for it is that AN regularly defers to his coaching team on matchdays and have long discussions with his coaches before making moves and like I said Irvine''s record at WBA in the PL wasn''t the best. But for a club of our size in the championship this looks a great coaching appointment and an obvious step up on Holt.
