Tony Andreu - Victom of Circumstance

Recommended Posts

I appreciate there''s not a lot happening but however did Archant string an article out about this? It''s complete waffle.

To be honest, I''d forgotten all about Andreu so I guess the article was good in that respect but how is he a victim of circumstance?

He''s just not good enough to get in our team, never has been and is unlikely to ever be so unless we get relegated to league 1.

I think Alex Neil brought him, as he was their best player, but totally underestimated the difference in standards.

Possibly, or was he part of the deal to bring AN here?

Either way, feel a bit sorry for him, but he hardly set the word alight out on loan either. Unlikely to be more than back-up, and with Naismith and Hoolahoop first teamers, with Maddison surely a long term replacement for Hoops, Andreu is certainly out of the picture in my eyes.

I agree with the point that he maybe underestimated how good the championship is. He won''t get a look in next season.

He was apparently not bad for Rotherham (I did see him play Fulham but don''t remember much about him from the game). I think that is his level- lower Championship, upper League One. If the price was right he''d be the kind of player I''d take a gamble on if I was Burton or MK Dons.

Think it was just a gamble at the time - he was in good form and the thought was maybe he could carry that on in a more difficult league.
Unfortunately didn''t pay off but I can see why we gave it a shot.

I thought he had some decent reports out on loan last season.  Who knows......a fresh start and a new season....could still do well for us.  It seems to me people get written off too easily if they are not playing for the first team every week, but as with RVW, he has ability and over a season or two out of the limelight, can be learning and developing as a footballer.  Doesn''t have to be so, of course, but I would prefer to think he could have a role to play in the squad this season.

Oh don''t get me wrong - I''m sure he''s better than RvW.

Still amuses me that people make excuses for RvW.

Three seasons, three different leagues, four managers and he''s been rubbish. The clubs he''s been loaned out to have also seen nothing in him to consider buying him.

I don''t know, this is pretty far out, but maybe he''s just not very good?

Well they liked him at Rotherham. I''d have thought we have better options with Naismith, Wes and Maddison able to play that role but he''s certainly not useless. Saying that, Wes is 34 and Maddison is still a teenager so it remains to be seen if they can crack on this season even if Wes did look great in the Euros.

I''d be giving him some time in pre season and taking it from there. At the very least, we should be able to make some money out of him. Rotherham and other lower end champs clubs would take him in a heartbeat.

It''s pretty simple - He''s a league2/conference standard player at a club 2-3 divisions too high for him. Nothing against the man but there is absolutely no way he should ever be wearing a Norwich jersey again - needs to be shipped off on a free transfer for the good of his own career as he''s probably below half the academy team in terms of ability at this level.

Exactly Andy, he''s not a victim of circumstance, he''s a victim of not being good enough to play for us. So why do we require an article suggesting anything to the contrary? Surely there''s more interesting things for Archant to write about than this, it''s just making up a story when there really isn''t one.

Staggering over statement.  Acquitted himself ok at Rotherham - in the championship.  May not break into the first team here, but in the squad and certainly capable at this level.  Dissing a player in our squad like you do makes for sour reading.

He''s a lower Champ player. Not as good as Wesley or Naismith and not as good as Maddison is hopefully going to be.

No slight on the guy but it felt like a stop-gap at the time and hasn''t improved since.

Of the three mid-field conundrums, alongside Mulumbu and Vadis, I consider him the least likely to come good.

Mulumbu is the biggest puzzle, I remain hopeful of Vadis, but Andreu seems a lost cause.

One, two or all three off the pay-roll would be a bonus in many ways.

Throw in the costly other non-contributors, Lafferty and RVW, and we might have some clue as to why we might not have quite the money in the bank that some of us once thought.

The Club has continued to bleed money on players who do not justify their wages, a situation mitigated and somewhat maintained by profiting on the likes of Snoddy, Fer, Grabban, Johnson Redmond.

All clubs have their fair share of passengers, but we seem to have more than most on our payroll these days and they are taking up much needed money, a lot of which has come from profits in the market place.

Daily I hope to read news that at least one of these, thus far, losers, has been unloaded.

Their retention also contradicts our youth policy somewhat, particularly the acquisition of the like of young Madison.

not as good as Naismith !!!!???

Give Naismith enough games - the gap between Andreu and Naismith will close dramatically.

Difficult to pick on Andreu. He struggled to make an impact or get a run in a top Championship settled side last time round so we just haven''t seen enough of him. Yet, he was at least in most Rotherham starting teams when he was on loan. Though Vadis overshadowed him then.
