OT - Turkey Explodes

Recommended Posts

I originally thought that it was a thread about one of the Bernard Matthews birds that''s being fattened up for Christmas OR, until I heard the news.

UK out! Turkey in?

and yes.

News about Kim Kardashian''s @rse exploding would probably excite more interest on this testosterone enhanced forum.

Currently on holiday in Cyprus.

Had some great holidays in Turkey, but when the travel agent has suggested it for the last two years, I have declined, for this reason.

Let''s not perpetuate myths. Turkey will not join the EU for decades and decades, if ever. Before Brexit, several other countries had expressed they would block Turkey''s accession to the EU (as they could easily do, the accession would have to be unanimously agreed).

Turkey has several articles in it''s constitution which don''t jive with the EU''s regulations (eg, there is a law which makes it illegal to criticise Ataturk which clearly contravenes freedom of speech etc). As someone who has lived in Turkey, it''s unimaginable they would ever take that out the constitution. This is a nation which blocked youtube for 5 years because a video appeared on there which was not favourable to Erdogan.

Turkey joining the EU ain''t going to happen, that was fearmongering from the Leave side, Brexit is done now, so let''s stop pretending it might.

Should say they blocked youtube for 5 years for a video that was not favourable to Ataturk. Erdogan was the one blocking it though.

It was perpetuating nothing KiO save little, un-funny, tongue-in-cheek remarks that contain no intended substance or viewpoint.

Perhaps this thread should merge with the EU one which, apparently, is still alive and kicking otherwise we are in danger of diluting this forum with polly-ticks (or turkey-ticks in this case) etc.

Fair enough mate, whatever the realities of the situ with Turkey/EU, it''s sad to see a nation I love firing on their own people.

Looks like it''s well and truly been crushed now, but the fallout from this will not be pretty. Hell hath no fury like an Erdogan scorned!

There was a young fellow from Ankara

Who was a terrific wankerer

Till he sowed his wild oats

With the help of a goat

But he didn’t even stop to thankera.👍

Maybe that depends on who was behind the coup attempt, and the reasons for launching it.

The coup was an attempt to move Turkey''s direction of travel back towards a more secular state, its failure will now see it slide into a pseudo democratic religious dictatorship.

A sad sad day for the young people of Turkey.

A sad sad day for the young people of Turkey.[/quote]That might be what the Turks are being told, but whoever is behind the coup is perhaps bound to say that. Often there are underlying motivations and politics involved. There''s been quite a bit of talk about the Islamic scholar Fethullah Gulen and his shadowy religious movement being behind the coup, perhaps backed by the US (where Gulen is exiled).

All the opposition parties have opposed the attempted coup.

Whenever anything goes wrong in Turkey Erdogan always blames Gulen and his so called "parallel state"

The parallel state is a fictitious "terrorist group" created in the mind of Erdogan, he uses it to remove top judges, police officers, local politicians, large numbers of journalists and even a major opposition newspaper, anyone in fact that opposes him is classed as a Gulanist and removed.

Indeed Julian.

The only conspiracy theory that I might subscribe to is that fringe groups sympathetic to and controlled by Erdogan helped manufacture this coup in order to strengthen his presidential ambitions.

Somehow last night all seemed a little bit too convenient and choreographed.
