Today's game

@Indy

You''ve argued a lot of good points but those last couple of posts are just silly.

''Thierry Henry wasn''t great with his head.'' True but he bought a huge amount more to his team than just finishing. He was fast, skillful, creative AND a great finisher.

''He''s not a target man so he doesn''t need to be strong.'' This is rubbish. You need to be strong as a striker in English football no matter how you play. Defoe isn''t a target man but is still strong enough to hold off a defender, shield the ball or get shrug off a tackle. Grabban wasn''t a target man but was capable of holding up the ball when needed. It isn''t just target men who need to have the strength in this game. Defenders aren''t just going to leave him alone in space- if they know he is weak and also doesn''t have pace to get away from them they will just get tight and move him off the ball- as they did in his one season here.

One of the more noticeable things from watching any collection of his goals at sporting is the space and time he''s allowed by defenders. You won''t get that here. Also Sporting are one of the best teams in that league- they know they will dominate the ball and create more chances most games, hence why they can carry a player that doesn''t offer much outside of the box. We won''t and we can''t.

The last players I can think of to flourish in English football who were pure goal poachers were Michael Owen and Ruud Van Nistlerooy. I honestly can''t think of a single player plying their trade in this league that is in that style and there is a reason for that.
